VINZERIA NOBLE Linen-Cotton Knit Jumper
What Is Being Made
The VINZERIA NOBLE is a versatile knitted jumper designed by domoras.com, available in either a linen-cotton blend or pure mercerized Egyptian cotton. This intermediate-level knitting project features a classic pullover silhouette with customizable sleeve length options, allowing knitters to create either long or short set-in sleeves depending on their preference and seasonal needs.
Yarn Options and Materials
This pattern offers flexibility in yarn selection to suit different fiber preferences and desired fabric characteristics:
- NOTO Yarn: A 50% linen and 50% cotton blend from domoras, providing a lightweight and breathable fabric ideal for warm-weather wear. This yarn requires knitting with 2 strands held together. Yardage is 350 meters per 50 grams, with total yardage requirements ranging from 300 to 500 grams depending on size.
- ALCAMO Yarn: A 100% mercerized Egyptian cotton option, also from domoras, worked as a single strand. This DK-weight yarn offers 125 meters per 50 grams, with total yardage requirements from 350 to 600 grams based on size.
Both yarn options are classified as DK weight, making them suitable for creating a fabric with excellent drape and breathability.
Needles and Tools
The pattern requires US size 2½ mm (or 3 mm) straight needles for the main fabric, paired with a US size 2½ mm circular needle for working the neckband. The circular needle allows for seamless finishing at the neck opening, whether worked as a 6/6 ribbing or an alternative 3/3 ribbing construction.
Gauge and Tension
The working gauge for this jumper is 23 stitches in stockinette stitch on US size 3 mm needles equals 10 centimeters (4 inches). Achieving proper gauge is essential for obtaining the correct finished measurements and ensuring the jumper fits as intended.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
The VINZERIA NOBLE employs several fundamental knitting techniques suitable for intermediate-level crafters:
- Ribbing (6/6): The welt at the bottom, sleeve cuffs, and neckband are worked in a wide 6/6 ribbing pattern, which creates elastic edges that hold the garment close to the body. This ribbing is constructed by alternating 6 knit stitches with 6 purl stitches across each row, then continuing subsequent rows by knitting the knit stitches and purling the purl stitches as they appear. An alternative 3/3 ribbing option is available for the neckband if preferred.
- Stockinette Stitch: The main body of the jumper is worked in stockinette stitch, which creates the classic smooth, V-textured fabric characteristic of knitted garments. The pattern notes that this can be worked in either reverse stockinette or plain stockinette depending on desired aesthetic.
- Set-In Sleeves: The sleeves are integrated into the garment using set-in sleeve construction, a traditional tailoring technique that creates a fitted armhole and professional appearance.
Construction Method
While the VINZERIA NOBLE pattern is designed to be worked flat on straight needles, the instructions include guidance for working the garment in the round using circular needles up to the armhole shaping, offering knitters the flexibility to choose their preferred construction method. This adaptability makes the pattern accessible to knitters with varying skill levels and equipment preferences.
