Product Description
Easy but effective pattern. The design gives a lot of interest which still stands out when worn. The length of this cowl means that it looks great wrapped double and then gives a really chunky and urban look.
I used a soft chunky yarn from Katia. This colour is a pale grey which means it should mix with nearly all other colours you're wearing.
You can use any chunky / bulky yarn you like though.
It is knitted flat on two needles and joined together at the rear.
Written in full, easy to follow instructions in English, with both British and American terms throughout.

What Is Being Made
The Urban Double Cowl is a generous-length cowl designed by Lorna Robson under her anrol label. This knitted accessory measures 152cm (60 inches) in diameter and 23cm (9 inches) in length, making it substantial enough to wrap double around the neck for a chunky, urban aesthetic. The design is intended for adult and large adult sizes, offering visual interest while remaining versatile enough to coordinate with most wardrobe colors.
Techniques and Construction
This cowl is knitted flat on two needles and then joined together at the rear seam, making it an accessible project for knitters new to circular construction. The pattern uses straightforward, easy-to-follow written instructions available in English with both British and American terminology throughout, ensuring clarity for knitters regardless of regional background. The design is classified as beginner difficulty, making it an ideal project for those learning fundamental knitting techniques while still achieving a polished, professional-looking finished piece.
Stitches and Pattern Details
While specific stitch abbreviations are not detailed in the provided pattern excerpt, the design is described as "an easy but effective pattern" that "gives a lot of interest" visually. The construction method and finished dimensions suggest the use of basic knit and purl stitches or simple textured stitch patterns that create visual appeal without requiring advanced techniques.
Materials and Yarn
The Urban Double Cowl pattern calls for 3 balls of chunky weight yarn, each weighing 100g or 3oz, for a total of 300 grams of yarn. The original design was created using Katia Alaska in colorway 9 Tintada, a soft chunky yarn in pale grey. However, the pattern is flexible and accommodates most chunky or bulky weight yarns, provided they meet the tension and gauge requirements specified in the pattern instructions. Knitting is worked on 8mm needles (US size 11 / UK size 0) straight needles for flat knitting before seaming.
Design Advantages
The pale grey colorway of the original Katia yarn ensures the finished cowl coordinates easily with nearly all other clothing colors. The extended length allows the wearer to wrap the cowl double around the neck, creating the signature chunky, urban look that defines this design. This versatility in styling and color coordination makes the Urban Double Cowl a practical addition to any knitter's wardrobe.
