Product Description
After receiving lots of love for my Farmhouse Striped Kitchen Towel and Buffalo Plaid Kitchen Towel, I knew I just had to make a few fun, festive towels for the upcoming holiday season. The Gingerbread Man Kitchen Towel was the first in this new series of crochet kitchen towels for the holidays and I was smitten. He got a little lonely hanging around by himself so I made him a Snowman Kitchen Towel friend. After releasing the first 2 characters, I received requests for a turkey kitchen towel for Thanksgiving.
YarnLily Sugar n’ Cream cotton yarns were used for the sample.
Towel is A Crocheted Simplicity original design.

Turkey Kitchen Towel by Jennifer Renaud
Project Overview
The Turkey Kitchen Towel is a beginner-friendly crochet project designed by Jennifer Renaud that combines functionality with festive charm. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a decorative kitchen towel featuring a turkey design, measuring 8 inches wide by 17.5 inches long (excluding the head). The finished towel serves as both a practical kitchen accessory and a charming seasonal decoration.
What Is Being Made
This project produces a functional kitchen towel with an integrated turkey motif. The design features a turkey head constructed as a separate half-circle element that attaches to the main towel body, creating a three-dimensional effect. The towel body extends downward from the turkey head, providing a practical rectangular surface suitable for drying dishes or hands. Two 15mm black craft eyes are incorporated to bring the turkey character to life.
Construction Techniques
The Turkey Kitchen Towel is constructed using a strategic three-part assembly method. The pattern begins by crocheting a half-circle shape for the turkey head, which serves as the focal point of the design. Following completion of the head, the crocheter works the main body of the towel from top down, allowing the piece to grow organically from the head attachment point. This top-down construction method provides flexibility in adjusting the final length while maintaining proper proportions. The craft eyes are attached to the completed head to add personality and definition to the turkey character.
Crochet Stitches Used
- Single Crochet (sc) – Used throughout the pattern as a foundational stitch, providing structure and density to the fabric
- Half Double Crochet (hdc) – Incorporated for sections requiring slightly more height and drape than single crochet
- Double Crochet (dc) – Utilized in the body of the towel to create a more open, absorbent fabric suitable for kitchen use
- Chain Stitches (ch) – Used to establish foundation rows and create turning chains throughout the pattern
- Slip Stitches (sl st) – Applied to join rounds and create seamless transitions between pattern sections
Yarn and Materials
The Turkey Kitchen Towel pattern calls for worsted weight cotton yarn, specifically 100% cotton in the sample. The recommended yarn is Lily Sugar n' Cream worsted weight cotton yarn, which provides durability and absorbency ideal for kitchen textiles. The pattern requires a total of 153 yards distributed across multiple colors:
- Jute (brown) – 140 yards (primary color for the towel body and turkey head)
- White – 2 yards (accent color)
- Yellow – 4 yards (detail color)
- Red – 4 yards (detail color)
- Orange – 3 yards (detail color)
Two crochet hooks are required: a J/10/6.00mm hook for the main towel body and an H/8/5.00mm hook for the head construction. A yarn needle is necessary for weaving in ends and attaching the craft eyes. The pattern also specifies two 15mm black craft eyes for the turkey's face.
Gauge and Sizing
Proper gauge is essential for achieving the correct finished dimensions. When working single crochet with the 5.00mm hook, the gauge is 8 stitches and 8 rows over 2 inches. In the body of the towel using the 6.00mm hook, the gauge measures 12 stitches over 4 inches and 5 rows over 2 inches. The finished one-size towel measures 8 inches in width and 17.5 inches in length, not including the turkey head.
Skill Level and Pattern Notes
This pattern is rated as Easy, making it an excellent choice for beginners learning fundamental crochet techniques. The straightforward construction method and use of basic stitches allow new crocheters to build confidence while creating a charming finished project. Important pattern notes indicate that turning chains are not included in stitch counts unless otherwise specified, which helps maintain accurate stitch counts throughout the project. The use of cotton yarn provides a practical, washable finished product suitable for everyday kitchen use.
