This whimsical shawl is designed to be enjoyable to make and unique to wear.
If you loved my Fishing for Luck Shawl then you will love The Wheel of Time Shawl!
Those familiar with the writings of Robert Jordan will note the references to his works. I designed this shawl with this in mind. The main body of the shawl is a pattern of repeating wheels. Small wheels dangle from the edge as though suspended in time! These differ in length and are held in place by the rows of cog like stitches!
The Wheel of Time Shawl is an intermediate-level crochet design created by Sue Stapleton of Auburncraft Crochet Design. This downloadable PDF pattern produces a finished shawl measuring 194cm (76 inches) in length, making it a substantial wrap suitable for layering or wearing as a statement accessory.
This project uses 4-ply yarn weight, specifically two balls of Katia Silk Degrade, with each ball containing 670 meters or 656 yards. The total yarn requirement is approximately 760 meters (831 yards) when gauge is met. Crocheters will also need a 3.5mm crochet hook, stitch markers, scissors, and a tapestry needle for finishing.
The pattern specifies a gauge of 19 stitches to 10 centimeters (4 inches) and 15 rows to 10 centimeters (4 inches), measured after blocking. These measurements are essential for achieving the intended finished dimensions of 194 centimeters (76 inches) in length.
As an intermediate-level crochet project, The Wheel of Time Shawl incorporates standard crochet techniques appropriate for crafters with foundational skills and experience. The pattern uses 4-ply yarn weight, which creates a delicate fabric suitable for the shawl format. The use of Katia Silk Degrade yarn—a yarn featuring color gradation—adds visual interest and dimension to the finished piece.
Stitch markers play an important role in this design, helping crocheters track pattern repeats and maintain consistent shaping throughout the construction. The finished shawl is designed to be blocked after completion, which helps set the stitches and achieve the specified gauge measurements.
The Wheel of Time Shawl is available as a downloadable PDF pattern, allowing crocheters to access the instructions digitally and begin their project immediately upon purchase.
