Product Description
DESCRIPTION
Whoever said that wearing a potato sack wasn’t flattering has obviously never microwaved a donut. This cotton dress is perfect for the summer and great for the Fall to pair with some kick ass knee high boots or tights. A simple shift and shapeless design means you will never have to feel uncomfortable about your tummy showing through. This dress is worked in the round until your armpits and then split up into two sections (A & B). Once finished both “panels” you will use the horizontal invisible seam technique to join your shoulder seams together. You will then pick up the stitches on each sleeve and knit down, decreasing as you go. (Magical loop or DPNs are suggested) Pattern is written for sizes S (M, L, XL)

Knitting Techniques and Stitches
The Potato Sack Dress is constructed primarily using Stockinette stitch, a fundamental knitting technique that creates a smooth, classic fabric with a flat appearance. This stitch pattern is ideal for beginners and intermediate knitters, providing a clean canvas that showcases the yarn's natural qualities. The pattern utilizes circular needles for seamless or in-the-round construction, which is a common technique for creating fitted garments without seams.
Gauge and Yarn Requirements
The pattern is worked at a gauge of 15 stitches by 22 rows over 4 inches in Stockinette stitch. This moderate gauge creates a fabric with good drape suitable for a summer dress.
Yarn requirements vary by size:
- Sizes S and M: 4 skeins of Colour A (We Are Knitters "Pima Cotton") and 1 skein of Colour B, totaling approximately 775 meters or 847 yards
- Sizes L and XL: 5 skeins of Colour A (We Are Knitters "Pima Cotton") and 1 skein of Colour B, totaling approximately 1060 meters or 1159 yards
The pattern calls for lightly worsted weight yarn in category 3, with We Are Knitters "Pima Cotton" specifically recommended for its breathability and comfort in warm weather applications.
Materials and Tools
- Needles: US 8 (5 mm) circular needles, 20 inches (50 cm) long
- Notions: Darning needle for finishing
- Yarn: Worsted weight cotton yarn in two coordinating colors
Difficulty Level
While the product attributes indicate a beginner difficulty level, the PDF documentation lists this pattern as Intermediate. The straightforward Stockinette stitch construction makes it accessible to knitters with foundational skills, though the garment's size and yardage requirements may present a longer project timeline suitable for those with some knitting experience.
