Product Description
This earring pattern is a 2 for 1! It includes instructions for two designs: a flower and a sun. The first three rounds are worked the same for both, so once you create one pair, it’s easy to create the other pair! There is no gauge for this pattern, simply crochet as tightly as possible with the hook to achieve the best look.
Start with your trusty Aunt Lydia’s Crochet Thread size 10. You’ll need 64 size 6/0 beads to complete the flower earrings and 32 size 6/0 beads to complete the sun earrings. It is also necessary to use a fabric stiffener to make your finished work hold its shape and you’ll need fishhook earring findings.
Any colors you choose would be lovely! The suns look particularly nice in yellow, of course, but a dark blue could give them a star look as well! Experiment with your stash, as they take very little thread to create.

What is Being Made
The Flower of the Sun Earrings is a crochet jewelry pattern that creates two pairs of wearable earrings: one flower design and one sun design. These are delicate, beaded crochet earrings finished with fish hook earring findings, making them one-of-a-kind accessories suitable for gift-giving or personal wear.
Crochet Techniques Used
This pattern employs fundamental crochet techniques that make it accessible for beginners. The earrings are crocheted in the round, a technique that builds fabric circularly from a central point. The pattern is designed with efficiency in mind: both pairs share the same foundational rounds, with only the final round differing between the flower and sun variations. This repetitive structure allows crafters to quickly produce multiple pairs once they understand the basic construction method.
The pattern incorporates fabric stiffener or starch spray to set the shape of the finished pieces, ensuring the earrings maintain their dimensional form. Beads are integrated directly into the crochet fabric using specialized stitches, adding visual interest and weight to the delicate designs.
Stitches Used
The pattern utilizes simple, beginner-friendly stitches including:
- Chain (Ch) - the foundation stitch for building the base of the earrings
- Single Crochet (Sc) - the primary structural stitch used throughout the pattern
- Single Crochet Front Loop Only (Sc FLO) - creates texture variation by working into only the front loop of stitches
- Slipstitch (sl st) - used to join rounds and complete the circular construction
- Single Crochet with Bead (Sc w/bead) - integrates 6/0 glass seed beads directly into the crochet fabric
- Chain with Bead (Ch w/bead) - creates beaded chain elements within the design
Materials and Tools
This pattern calls for Aunt Lydia's size 10 Crochet Thread in colors such as Maize and Wood Violet, with approximately 75 yards required to complete two pairs of earrings. The fine thread weight creates delicate, detailed jewelry pieces.
Essential tools and materials include a 1.5 mm steel crochet hook sized appropriately for working with fine crochet thread, a tapestry needle for weaving in ends, and small craft or jewelry pliers for attaching findings. The pattern requires 6/0 glass seed beads for embellishment: 64 beads for the two flower earrings and 32 beads for the two sun earrings. Fish hook earring findings complete the jewelry pieces, making them ready to wear. Additional supplies include fabric stiffener or starch spray for shaping, pins, and a blocking mat for setting the finished earrings.
Difficulty Level
Rated as a beginner project, The Flower of the Sun Earrings pattern is designed to be accessible to new crocheters. The straightforward stitch selection, repetitive structure, and small scale of the finished pieces make this an ideal introduction to crochet jewelry making.
