Product Description
Who doesn’t need a ray of sunshine on gloomy days?
This easy Sunshine Crop Sweater is that ray of sunshine. Made with Lion Brand 24/7 cotton yarn, it is a perfect sweater for those cold summer evenings. I absolutely love the goldenrod color and am very happy with how it turned out mixed with the charcoal. This sweater is super comfy. It looks great with high waisted shorts or a pair of jeans and just make me want to dance.
It’s worked in 4 pieces (front, back, and each sleeve) and then sewed together. Only the knit and purl stitches are used as well as simple decreases and increases. You don’t need to be an expert to make this sweater.
Sunshine Crop Sweater by Knitting with Chopsticks
What is Being Made
The Sunshine Crop Sweater is a comfortable, cropped-length pullover sweater designed for warm-weather layering. This garment is ideal for pairing with high-waisted shorts or jeans and features a cheerful, wearable design that combines practicality with style. The sweater showcases a beautiful goldenrod color complemented by charcoal accents, creating a visually appealing finished piece suitable for those seeking a versatile wardrobe addition.
Construction Method
This sweater is constructed using a four-piece assembly method, which simplifies the knitting process for intermediate-level crafters. The pattern requires knitting the front panel, back panel, and two individual sleeves as separate components before joining them together through seaming. This modular approach makes the project more manageable and allows for easier adjustments during the fitting process.
Stitches and Techniques Used
The Sunshine Crop Sweater employs fundamental knitting stitches and shaping techniques, making it accessible to knitters with intermediate experience. The pattern utilizes:
- Knit stitch – the primary stitch forming the fabric base
- Purl stitch – used in combination with knit stitches for texture and pattern
- Simple decreases – for shaping the armholes, neckline, and sleeve caps
- Simple increases – for expanding the fabric where needed for proper fit
The pattern avoids complex colorwork, cables, or advanced techniques, making it an excellent project for knitters building their intermediate skills without requiring expert-level expertise.
Materials
This pattern is designed to be worked with Lion Brand 24/7 cotton yarn in a worsted weight, which provides a breathable, comfortable fabric ideal for layering during cooler summer evenings. The yarn choice contributes to the sweater's softness and wearability. Standard knitting needles appropriate for worsted-weight yarn are required to achieve the correct gauge and fabric drape.
Difficulty Level
Rated as an intermediate project, the Sunshine Crop Sweater is designed for knitters who have mastered basic stitches and are ready to tackle simple shaping and seaming. The straightforward stitch palette and four-piece construction make this an encouraging intermediate project that does not require advanced knitting expertise.
