I love decorating a table for the holidays with placemats, table runners, centerpieces. Halloween and Christmas are the best decorating holidays. The squashed witch can be done in different colors to create a squashed elf!

I have more fun creating things for my Halloween party and Christmas dinner than any other decorations.

So why not a pattern that can be used for both holidays?

The Squashed Witch Placemat was an idea I had a few years ago.

It took two years to realize that with a few strategic color changes, the same pattern could also be used to create a Squashed Elf Placemat.

Red Heart Super Saver yarn, 100% acrylic, worsted weight, 364 yds/7 oz/198 g.

For Witch*:* White (WHT), < 1 ball; Black (BLK), 1 ball; Spring Green (GRN), < 1 ball; Pumpkin (PUM), < 1 ball; Dark Orchid (ORC), < 1 ball; Gold (GLD), < 1 ball.

For Elf: White (WHT), < 1 ball; Cherry Red (RED), < 1 ball; Hunter Green (HUNT), < 1 ball; Gold (GLD) < 1 ball.
