Product Description
Stay cosy in style with my crochet cable hairband!
It's really easy to make this hairband, thanks to my detailed Row-by-Row Photo Guide that shows you exactly how to work the cable pattern.
Designed for intermediate crocheters, the pattern uses front post and back post stitches, which are crossed over to form the cable pattern. It will help if you can already work post stitches – if not, they're very simple to learn and lots of guides with photos are included. This A4 pdf pattern includes UK crochet terms and US crochet separately.
Finished hairband measures approx 7cm wide and 55cm circumference.
To make the hairband, you need a warm, fairly stretchy aran yarn. I used Drops Air Mix (70% alpaca, 23% polyamide, 7% wool, 50g/130m), 1 ball of 04 Medium Grey.
A chunky hairband is a must-have for winter, to keep you feeling warm and looking stylish. A simple cable pattern is a classic decoration for a cosy feel.
Soft Cables Headband by Becky Skuse
What is Being Made
The Soft Cables Headband is a cosy crochet accessory designed to keep you warm while maintaining a stylish appearance. This chunky hairband features a decorative cable pattern created using crossed-over post stitches, making it a seasonal must-have piece that combines functionality with classic aesthetic appeal.
Craft and Primary Technique
This project is created using crochet as the primary craft. The design showcases cable work, which is achieved through a combination of crossed-over post stitches. Post stitches form the foundation of the cable pattern, and by crossing these stitches over one another, the characteristic textured cable effect is created. While the cable pattern may appear complex at first glance, working through one pattern repeat helps you quickly master the technique.
Stitches Used
- Post stitches – the primary stitch used to build the cable texture
- Crossed post stitches – post stitches worked in a crossed-over formation to create the cable pattern
Materials and Tools
This project requires aran weight yarn that is warm, fluffy, and stretchy. The pattern was designed using Drops Air Mix yarn (70% alpaca, 23% other fibres). You will need a US H/8 crochet hook (15mm). The finished headband measures approximately 40 inches by 14 inches.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty. Prior experience working post stitches is helpful, though they are described as very simple to learn. Once you understand post stitches, crossing them over to form cables is the next step in mastering this design.
Pattern Format
This is a downloadable PDF pattern provided by independent designer Becky Skuse. The pattern includes instructions in both UK and US crochet terminology.
