Product Description
A lovely, lacy capelet that is perfect for adding an extra layer of warmth and beauty to your winter attire. This piece is extremely versatile and can be worn over or under a winter coat, or worn inside as an easy to remove layer when it gets a little too warm by the fireplace. Two large buttons keep the capelet closed. The delicate, meandering lace in a bulky yarn is a wonderful contrast and makes for a beautiful and fast knit.

The collar is worked in garter stitch and tucked once per body lace repeat, to provide shaping for the neck and shoulders. Both charted and written instructions are included for the lace on the body and the edging.

Snowberry Brambles Capelet by Tori Gurbisz
What is Being Made
The Snowberry Brambles is a lacy knitted capelet designed by independent designer Tori Gurbisz. This versatile layering piece features a delicate, meandering lace pattern worked in chunky yarn, creating an elegant contrast between the bulky weight yarn and the intricate stitch work. The capelet is sized to fit shoulder-to-shoulder measurements ranging from 16 inches (XS) to 25 inches (XL), with five size options available. Two large buttons serve as the closure mechanism, allowing the wearer to adjust the fit and style. The finished piece is perfect for adding warmth and visual interest to winter outfits and can be worn over a coat, under a coat, or as an easily removable indoor layer.
Techniques and Construction
This advanced-level knitting project showcases sophisticated lace-work techniques that create the signature meandering lace pattern throughout the body of the capelet. The use of chunky yarn in combination with delicate lace stitches produces a striking visual effect and contributes to the fast knit timeline despite the advanced difficulty rating. The capelet construction allows for versatile styling options, as it can be layered in multiple ways depending on the wearer's needs and the ambient temperature.
Stitches and Stitch Patterns
The primary stitch pattern used in the Snowberry Brambles is a body lace pattern that creates the delicate, meandering design characteristic of this capelet. The lace pattern is worked at a gauge of 11 stitches and 14 rows over 4 inches (10 cm), which is typical for chunky weight yarn. The lace stitches create an open, decorative fabric that balances the weight of the bulky yarn.
Materials and Yarn
The Snowberry Brambles capelet is designed to be worked in chunky weight yarn. The pattern provides two yarn options with specific yardage requirements:
- Malabrigo Chunky: 100% Merino Wool, 100 grams per skein, 100 yards per skein, shown in the colorway Bobby Blue. Yardage requirements are 3 skeins for sizes XS, S, and M; 4 skeins for sizes L and XL.
- Knit Picks Cadena: 70% Peruvian Highland Wool and 30% Superfine Alpaca blend, 100 grams per skein, 110 yards per skein, shown in the colorway Seraphim.
The pattern is provided as a downloadable PDF format, making it accessible for immediate use. Appropriate knitting needles for chunky weight yarn are required to achieve the specified gauge, though the exact needle size recommendation would be detailed within the full pattern document.
