Product Description
he Seija Racerback is a delicate summer camisole, made using a cotton-bamboo blend yarn. Seija means serene and tranquil, which exactly how I envisage my days spent in the summer sun wearing this top! Seija is worked from the bottom up in the round so that you can work the top as one piece, and avoid any sewing up at the end. You will work the main pattern as one piece to the underarm, and then divide into two parts (for the front and back) and continue the shaping working flat (back and forth) but on the same circular needles. Straps are formed using i-cord technique and attached the back using 3 needle bind off. The top has a high neck and a racerback style on the back.

What is Being Made
The Seija Racerback Top is a delicate summer camisole designed for warm-weather wear. This knitted garment features a high neckline and racerback styling on the back, creating a flattering and functional design. The name "Seija" means serene and tranquil, reflecting the relaxed aesthetic intended for summer days spent in the sun. This is a downloadable knitting pattern suitable for intermediate-level knitters.
Construction Method
The Seija Racerback is worked from the bottom up in the round, allowing the main body to be created as one continuous piece without requiring seaming. The knitter works the central pattern in the round up to the underarm, then divides the work into two separate sections for the front and back panels. From this point forward, the garment is worked flat (back and forth) on the same circular needles to accommodate the shaping required for the armholes and neckline. This hybrid construction method minimizes finishing work while maintaining the benefits of in-the-round knitting for the body.
Stitches and Techniques
This pattern employs several key knitting techniques to achieve its finished design:
- Stockinette Stitch (st-st) forms the primary fabric base, providing a smooth, classic knit surface
- I-cord technique is used to create the racerback straps, producing a decorative and structurally sound cord element
- Three Needle Bind Off is the finishing method used to attach the i-cord straps to the back of the garment, creating a secure and professional seam
Materials and Yarn Specifications
The Seija Racerback Top is designed to be worked in DK or Sport weight yarn, both lightweight options ideal for summer garments. The recommended yarn fiber is a cotton-bamboo blend, which provides breathability, drape, and a soft hand perfect for a delicate camisole. The pattern specifies a gauge of 22 stitches and 28 rows over a 10cm x 10cm swatch in stockinette stitch, worked on appropriate needles for the chosen yarn weight. Circular needles are required for both the in-the-round and flat sections of construction.
Skill Level
This pattern is rated as Intermediate, making it suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle more complex shaping and construction techniques. The combination of in-the-round knitting, mid-project division, flat knitting on circular needles, and specialty finishing techniques like i-cord and three needle bind off requires solid technical knowledge and comfort with pattern reading.
