Ross and Demelza Poldark Amigurumi Crochet Patterns
What Is Being Made
These downloadable crochet patterns by Laura Wilson create amigurumi toys of the characters Ross and Demelza Poldark. Amigurumi is the Japanese craft technique of crocheting small, stuffed three-dimensional figures. This pattern set includes instructions for making both characters, making it ideal for fans of the Poldark series who want to create handmade toy versions of these beloved characters.
Craft and Primary Technique
The primary craft used is crochet, specifically amigurumi construction. Amigurumi involves crocheting pieces in the round using single crochet stitches, then stuffing and assembling them to create finished toys. This technique allows crafters to build dimensional forms by increasing and decreasing stitches strategically throughout each round.
Stitches and Techniques Used
The patterns utilize fundamental crochet stitches appropriate for amigurumi work. Key techniques include:
- Single crochet (sc) as the primary stitch for constructing the toy pieces
- Color changes worked directly into single crochet stitches to create different sections and details of each character
- The color change method involves changing yarn color as you finish the last stitch of the current color by pulling the new color through to complete the single crochet, allowing the next stitch to be worked in the new color
- Yarn tails are tied together on the inside of finished pieces for a neat appearance
Materials Required
The patterns call for specific materials to ensure consistent results:
- DK weight yarn in multiple colors: The designer used Hayfield Bonus DK yarn in the following shades: Peaches (888), Walnut (927), Navy (971), Dark Grey Mix (790), Black (965), White (961), Fox (779), and Fields of Gold (666)
- It is important to use the same brand of yarn for each color to maintain uniform thickness throughout the finished toys
- 3mm crochet hook for working with DK weight yarn
- Fiberfill stuffing (referenced in materials list) for filling the amigurumi pieces
Difficulty Level
These patterns are rated as intermediate difficulty, making them suitable for crocheters who have mastered basic stitches and are ready to tackle multi-piece projects with color changes and assembly work.
Pattern Format and Usage
This is a downloadable PDF pattern designed for personal, non-commercial use only. The pattern includes detailed instructions for completing both Ross and Demelza Poldark amigurumi toys. Credit to the designer Laura Wilson should be given when posting photos or selling finished toys.
