Product Description
This pattern features cascading bobbles that resemble raindrops. The pattern itself is quite simple so it's a fun one to practice your bobble stitch.
The Rainfall Cardigan is designed to be oversized so if you like your cardigan to be more fitted I suggest you size down.
The internal pockets are optional but do finish off the cardigan nicely for warmth and practicality!
It’s designed to be roomy so covers multiple sizes nicely. Size XXS is avaiable (along with childrens size/age 1 - 14) on my Little Rainfall Cardigan Pattern.
if you’d like a shorter or longer cardigan simply work more or fewer hdc rows between the final bobble row and the sleeve indent. Video tutorials available on my IGTV.
Rainfall Cardigan by Little Golden Nook
What Is Being Made
The Rainfall Cardigan is a women's crochet cardigan designed by Little Golden Nook in four size ranges: XS (to fit bust 80–82cm/30–32"), Small (84–87cm/33–34"), Medium/Large (92–107cm/36–42"), and XL–XXL (110–135cm/43–53"). This is a beginner-level crochet project available as a downloadable PDF pattern. The pattern is written in US crochet terminology and includes options for a more fitted silhouette by sizing down.
Techniques Used
The Rainfall Cardigan employs fundamental crochet construction techniques suitable for beginner crocheters. The pattern features ribbed edging created with front post half double crochet (FPHDC) and chain stitches, which adds structure and elasticity to the garment. The body is worked in standard crochet fabric using basic stitch combinations. Stitch markers are used throughout to track pattern repeats and shaping, while a tapestry needle is employed for weaving in ends and seaming pieces together.
Stitches Used
- Chain (Ch): The foundation stitch used to begin the pattern
- Single Crochet (Sc): A basic short stitch used in the pattern construction
- Half Double Crochet (HDC): The primary stitch used throughout the body of the cardigan
- Half Double Crochet into Back Loop Only (HDCBLO): A variation that creates textured ribbing by working into only the back loop of stitches
- Front Post Half Double Crochet (FPHDC): A post stitch used to create the ribbed edging detail
- Slip Stitch (Slst): Used for joining rounds and finishing edges
- Chain Space (Ch sp): The space created under a chain stitch, often used for openwork or shaping
Materials
The Rainfall Cardigan is worked in 10-ply/Aran weight yarn, a medium-weight yarn suitable for drape and structure. Yardage requirements vary by size: XS requires 1500m, Small requires 1600m, Medium/Large requires 1750m, and XL–XXL requires 1900m. A 5mm crochet hook is used throughout the pattern. Additional materials include stitch markers to track your place in the pattern, and a tapestry needle for finishing. The pattern is written to achieve a gauge of 14 half double crochet stitches and 11 rows measured over 10 centimeters when worked with the specified hook and yarn weight.

Always efficient in delivery and high quality product!
I have used various patterns and yarn from live crafts and have always been satisfied with both!
Good but a bit slow
It’s a gorgeous pattern that readsreally well HOWEVER the pattern contains two versions. This isn’t very clear at the start, there’s no introduction stating this on the actual pattern itself, the two versions are very similar and I was caught out several times and ended up having to do quite a bit of frogging. This could definitely be improved
Beautiful wool, working up quickly
The pattern is beautifully written, really easy to follow
Easy downloadable pattern
This is a fabulous and easy to read pattern. I’m a beginner at crochet and I have almost finished the design with minimal problems. I would highly recommend this pattern and the pattern author to others.
