Product Description
Quibble is a comfortable, yet stylish top that is knit from the crown of the hood to the hem in one piece. The hood stitches are cast on using Judy's magic cast on method and is shaped using increases down to the neckline. The pocket ribbing and side seam cable pattern help to make the body knit interesting and give this top a subtle flair. This pattern also includes instructions for a hoodless version of Quibble. Quibble is also available in women's sizes.
Gauge - 20 stitches x 28 rows = 4” (10 cm) in stockinette stitch on size US 6 (4.0 mm) needles (or size needed to get gauge). Achieving BOTH stitch AND row gauges are important for this pattern!
Quibble for Girls by The Public Knitter
Garment Overview
Quibble for Girls is a comfortable yet stylish knitted top designed for children, available in sizes 1 through 12 with finished chest measurements ranging from 20 inches (51 cm) to 30 inches (76 cm). This pattern is created by independent designer The Public Knitter and offers versatility with both a hooded version and a hoodless alternative, allowing crafters to customize the finished garment to their preference.
Construction Method
This top is knit in one piece from the crown of the hood down to the hem, creating a seamless construction that minimizes finishing work. This top-down approach allows for easy adjustments and try-ons during the knitting process, making it particularly suitable for intermediate-level knitters who are comfortable with in-the-round knitting techniques.
Key Knitting Techniques
- Cast-On Method: The hood stitches are cast on using Judy's magic cast-on method, a technique that creates a seamless, elastic edge ideal for the crown of the hood
- Shaping: Increases are worked down from the hood crown to the neckline to shape the garment and create a comfortable fit
- Stitch Patterns: The pattern features pocket ribbing and side seam cable patterns that add visual interest and texture to the body of the garment, giving the top a subtle fair isle appearance
Materials and Yarn Weight
Quibble for Girls is designed to be worked in DK weight yarn, a medium-weight yarn that provides excellent stitch definition for the cable and ribbed stitch patterns while creating a garment with good drape and comfort for children.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle techniques such as top-down construction, increases for shaping, and stitch pattern integration.
Pattern Format
Quibble for Girls is available as a downloadable PDF pattern, allowing immediate access to the complete instructions and sizing information for all nine children's sizes included in the design.
