Product Description

I designed this for my Teen Daughter who loves the Big Bulky look of this LONG 70 INCH scarf.

I used 4 Balls of Emu Snowball 77 yards each, a Wool Acrylic Blend. Any Super Bulky would work for this pattern.

There is no specific gauge for this pattern, and it can be made to your desired length or stick to pattern specs of 70 inches long.

Please do not share or copy photos or written work in part or in full. They are Copyright to Blu Daisy Creations. You are free to sell items you make from this pattern, but please give credit to Blu Daisy Creations as the Designer.

Thank You and Happy Crocheting!!

Payten Scarf by Blu Daisy Creations

What Is Being Made

The Payten Scarf is an original crochet design created by Blu Daisy Creations in March 2016. This is a downloadable PDF pattern for crafting a textured scarf using super bulky yarn. The finished scarf measures approximately 70 inches in length with an openwork stitch pattern that creates visual interest and drape, making it an ideal accessory for various seasons and styling occasions.

Craft and Technique Overview

This project is completed entirely using the crochet technique, making it suitable for beginners who have basic familiarity with fundamental crochet methods. The pattern employs a repeating stitch sequence that alternates between rows to build texture and create decorative openwork sections. The use of super chunky yarn allows the project to work up quickly, making this an efficient pattern for crafters seeking faster results. The design incorporates strategic stitch placement and spacing to achieve an elegant, lacy appearance while maintaining structural integrity.

Stitches Used

  • Chain (CH) – Used to establish the foundation and create openwork spaces throughout the pattern
  • Single Crochet (SC) – Provides structure and density in specific rows and fills in openwork areas
  • Double Crochet (DC) – Creates height and forms the primary stitch pattern repeats

Materials and Tools Required

Yarn: 4 balls of Emu Snowball 100g in Navy, classified as super bulky weight yarn. This substantial yarn weight is essential for achieving the intended drape and texture of the finished scarf.

Tools: An N/10.00 mm crochet hook sized to accommodate the super bulky yarn, scissors for finishing and fringe preparation, and a measure tape for checking gauge and tracking length progress.

Pattern Structure and Gauge

The pattern begins with a foundation chain of 22 stitches. Gauge is established by working Rows 1 through 6, which should measure 5 inches in height by 9 inches in width. This gauge checkpoint ensures proper sizing and helps crafters adjust tension if needed before committing to the full project.

The core pattern repeats across Rows 3 through 5, creating a rhythmic sequence of double crochets, chain spaces, and single crochets. This three-row repeat continues until the scarf reaches the desired length of approximately 70 inches, allowing for customization based on individual preference.

Key Pattern Notes

  • Chain 2 worked at the start of rows counts as a double crochet stitch and is integral to stitch counts
  • Chain 1 at the start of rows does not count as a stitch and serves as a turning chain only
  • Openwork sections are created by skipping stitches and working into chain spaces, producing the lacy aesthetic
  • Fringe finishing requires reserving approximately 40 lengths of yarn, each measuring 12 inches, to be attached along the scarf edges

Difficulty Level

This pattern is classified as beginner-friendly, making it accessible to crocheters new to the craft or those seeking a straightforward project. The repeating stitch pattern and use of basic stitches allow crafters to develop rhythm and consistency while creating a polished, professional-looking finished piece.
