Product Description

The perfect T-shirt that goes with anything and is so comfortable you’ll want to wear it with everything! I’m speaking from personal experience - I never want to take mine off!

It’s your favorite T. The one you can throw on with a pair of sweats to run down to the store, or a pair of leggings to meet a friend for coffee, or wear effortlessly with your favorite jeans dressed up or down. A touch of elegance coupled with comfort.

You can use any fingering/sock weight yarn that you like that gets you gauge. I highly encourage you to play around with colors, whether it be striping or blocking or a combination of both - any way to make it suite your own unique taste. Dive through your fingering/sock weight yarns and have fun!

This T is knit top down flat to shape the back neck, then joined in the round for the raglan yoke. Sleeves are separated and body is knit in the round. Sleeves and hem are finished with a twisted rib. Instructions for an optional crochet neck trim are provided.

ORC Raglan T by Jen Toll Knits

What Is Being Made

The ORC Raglan T is a hand-knit short-sleeve t-shirt designed by Jen Toll Knits. This versatile garment combines the comfort and casual appeal of a classic t-shirt with the elevated quality of hand-knitted construction. The raglan sleeve design—characterized by diagonal seams running from the underarm to the neckline—creates a flattering, comfortable fit suitable for everyday wear. The finished piece is described as a "sweater-t," bridging the gap between a traditional knit sweater and a lightweight t-shirt, making it appropriate for layering or wearing as a standalone top.

Design and Versatility

This t-shirt is engineered to be a wardrobe staple that pairs effortlessly with multiple outfit combinations. Whether styled casually with sweats for a quick errand, paired with leggings for a relaxed coffee meetup, or coordinated with jeans for a more polished look, the ORC Raglan T adapts to various occasions and dress codes. The hand-knit quality adds an element of elegance and refinement to what would otherwise be a basic garment, elevating its visual appeal and perceived value.

Knitting Techniques and Construction

The raglan sleeve construction is the defining technical feature of this design. Raglan sleeves are knit as part of the body rather than being set into an armhole, which simplifies the knitting process and creates a seamless, comfortable fit across the shoulders and upper arms. This technique is particularly suitable for beginner knitters, as it eliminates the complexity of traditional sleeve cap shaping and seaming.

Yarn and Materials

The ORC Raglan T is designed to be worked in 4-ply yarn weight, also known as sport weight. This yarn weight provides an ideal balance of drape and structure for a t-shirt, creating a fabric that is lightweight enough for comfort but substantial enough to hold its shape. The 4-ply weight allows for good stitch definition while remaining breathable and comfortable against the skin.

Difficulty Level

This pattern is classified as beginner-friendly, making it an excellent project for knitters who are new to garment construction. The straightforward raglan sleeve technique, combined with the basic t-shirt silhouette, provides an accessible introduction to knitting wearable garments without overwhelming complexity.

Designer Notes on Knitting Health

Jen Toll Knits emphasizes the importance of mindful knitting practices and injury prevention. The designer recommends taking frequent breaks during knitting sessions to stretch the neck, shoulders, chest, hands, fingers, and wrists. These ergonomic considerations are essential for maintaining hand health and preventing repetitive strain injuries common in knitting.

Format and Support

The ORC Raglan T pattern is available as a downloadable PDF, providing immediate access to the complete instructions.
