Product Description
It’s winter. You’re cold. You need a coffee, but you forgot your reusable coffee cup sleeve at home. Won’t you be looking smart when you remember you have your own built-in coffee sleeve stowed away around your wrist? With a flourish and a snap, that coffee cup sleeve is now securely anchored to your mitten to even further protect that precious beverage.
Mittens are one size, but can increase or decrease in length as you go to fit the desired hand. Mitten cuffs and coffee sleeve use a slipped stitch repeat to create a textured look that looks great from the wrong side as well. I used Paton's Kroy sock yarn in Flax for this mitten (and one ball was barely enough for both mittens and sleeve). The sleeve is knit with 4 - 2.75mm dp needles, while the mitten is knit with 4 - 3.5mm dp needles. You will require 4 snaps for this pattern as well.

Mittens with Snap-On Coffee Sleeve by Kraftling
Project Overview
These mittens feature an innovative detachable coffee sleeve that snaps directly onto your wrist, combining practical functionality with winter fashion. Designed by Joleen Kraft, this knitting pattern solves the common problem of forgetting a reusable coffee cup sleeve while keeping your hands warm. The snap-on sleeve provides an eco-friendly solution for protecting hot beverages, making these mittens ideal for environmentally conscious crafters, frequent coffee drinkers, or anyone seeking a unique and practical winter accessory.
What You'll Create
A pair of mittens with an integrated snap-on coffee sleeve mechanism. The mittens are knit as a complete garment with the coffee sleeve attachment points built into the design, allowing the sleeve to be secured with snaps when needed and removed when not in use. This dual-purpose design makes the mittens versatile for various winter activities and beverage situations.
Knitting Techniques Used
- Circular knitting on double-pointed needles
- In-the-round construction for seamless mittens
- Gauge-based sizing and shaping
- Snap attachment and hardware integration into a knitted garment
Stitches and Construction
While specific stitch details are not fully outlined in the pattern excerpt provided, the construction utilizes standard mitten-knitting methods worked on double-pointed needles in the round. This technique creates a seamless, fitted garment that moves smoothly from cuff to hand to fingertip.
Materials Required
- Needles: Four double-pointed 3.5 mm needles and four double-pointed 2.75 mm needles for working in the round and achieving proper gauge
- Yarn: One to one and one-quarter balls of Paton's Kroy Socks yarn in superfine weight (4-ply). The sample shown uses the colorway Flax. Each ball contains 50 grams and 152 meters of yardage. Looser knitters or those making mittens for longer hands may require the full one and one-quarter balls
- Hardware: Four small snaps plus thread and needle for attachment, allowing the coffee sleeve to be secured to the mitten
Skill Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with some experience in circular needle techniques and mitten construction. Familiarity with double-pointed needles and basic shaping methods is recommended.
Yarn Weight and Fiber Characteristics
Paton's Kroy Socks is a superfine weight yarn (4-ply) specifically engineered for sock knitting, making it an excellent choice for mittens. This yarn weight provides durability and a refined fabric suitable for winter wear while remaining lightweight enough for comfortable hand movement. The yarn's construction ensures good stitch definition and longevity through repeated wear and washing.
