Product Description
This is a pattern for a cushion cover decoration which I called “Lucky Quatrefoil”. The decoration consists of square motifs crocheted in the Overlay Crochet technique. They remind me of quatrefoils which are famous for bringing good luck to people. You can also crochet a blanket or a bag of these motifs.
This easy to follow pattern of a square motif is written for one size. It contains step by step full written instructions in English using standard crochet abbreviations and US terms (stitch guide is given in the pattern). It also contains lots of pictures explaining all the tricky and difficult places and how the motifs are joined before sewing to your selected cushion cover.
The sample was worked in Alize Superlana Klasik. A substitute yarn is shown below.

What is Being Made
The Lucky Quatrefoil Pillowcase is an original overlay crochet pattern design by LillaBjörnCrochet (Tatsiana Kupryianchyk) that creates a decorative pillow cover composed of square motifs. The quatrefoil design elements are inspired by traditional lucky symbols and also resemble small butterflies, making this a multifunctional decorative piece suitable for various home décor applications beyond pillow decoration.
Crochet Techniques Used
Overlay Crochet is the primary technique employed in this pattern. This advanced crochet method involves layering stitches to create dimensional, interlocking designs. The overlay crochet technique allows crafters to build complex geometric patterns by working stitches over a base fabric, resulting in textured, visually striking motifs that appear to float above the surface of the work.
Stitches and Stitch Work
While specific stitch abbreviations are not detailed in the provided content, the pattern utilizes fundamental crochet stitches combined through the overlay crochet technique to construct the quatrefoil square motifs. The advanced difficulty level indicates that crafters should have solid foundational knowledge of crochet stitches and be comfortable working with layered stitch techniques.
Materials Required
- Yarn: Superlana Klasik by Alize (100g/3.53 oz., 281 m/307 yds per skein) in five colors: dark turquoise, light grey, blue, mint, and ruby

- Crochet Hook: 2.75 mm (size C) or appropriate size to achieve correct gauge
- Additional Supplies: Scissors and tapestry needle for finishing
Pattern Details
This downloadable PDF pattern is classified as advanced difficulty, making it suitable for experienced crocheters. The use of DK weight yarn with a 2.75 mm hook creates a fabric with appropriate drape and structure for a pillow cover. The multicolor approach using five distinct yarn colors adds visual complexity and allows crafters to emphasize the quatrefoil motifs through strategic color placement.
