Product Description
(1) crochet pattern - the Love Pillow. Made with really soft “I Love This Yarn” brand yarn, this pattern showcases a sweet little heart and the word "love" graphic in beautiful blues. Also, it is one of three pillows in my Faith Hope Love Trio pattern.
This pillow was made using the “intarsia” method, which is just a fancy word for ‘rows of single crochet and color changes’. Intarsia crochet is not super difficult and works up fairly quickly. There are quite a few good videos on youtube for intarsia crochet available, should you want to view them.
Pattern includes instruction and tips for how to do intarsia crochet, specific instructions for THIS particular pattern and a colored graph. “I Love This Yarn” brand yarn was used for this pattern, however any medium weight (#4) worsted weight yarn with comparable colors can be used. Front of the pillows have the love graphic, the back is plain White.
Love Pillow Intarsia Crochet Pattern by Needle Me That
Project Overview
The Love Pillow is an intermediate-level crochet project designed to create a decorative pillow using the intarsia crochet technique. This downloadable PDF pattern from independent designer Needle Me That provides comprehensive instructions for crafting a multi-colored pillow with detailed stitch-by-stitch guidance.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a finished pillow featuring a design created through intarsia crochet colorwork. The project combines structural pillow construction with decorative multi-color patterning, resulting in a home décor item suitable for display or gifting.
Intarsia Crochet Technique
Intarsia crochet is a specialized crochet method that creates multi-colored projects with neat finishing on both sides or primarily on the right side. Unlike tapestry crochet, which involves carrying yarn strands along as you work, intarsia crochet uses a different approach to color changes. The technique produces clean color transitions and is often used for projects where appearance matters on both the front and back, or where a polished right side is the priority. When worked one-sided, intarsia creates neat colorwork on the right side with characteristic floats (yarn strands) visible on the wrong side.
Stitches and Construction
The pattern employs standard crochet stitches combined with color-changing techniques specific to intarsia work. Stitch direction and placement are indicated in the included colored graph, which serves as a visual guide for where color changes occur and how to position each stitch throughout the project.
Materials Required
- Yarn Weight: Worsted weight yarn in multiple colors as specified in the pattern's color chart
- Hook: Crochet hook appropriate for worsted weight yarn (size not specified in provided content)
- Additional Supplies: The pattern references a separate PDF file containing the colored graph and color chart needed for color placement and stitch direction
Pattern Structure and Difficulty
Rated as intermediate difficulty, this pattern is designed for crocheters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle multi-color techniques. The PDF is organized into three main sections: an introductory section on intarsia crochet definition and helpful tips (pages 2–4), specific pillow construction instructions (pages 5–9), and a separate colored graph with color chart and stitch direction guidance. Crocheters already experienced with intarsia techniques can skip the instructional overview and proceed directly to the pillow-specific instructions.
Design and Finishing
The Love Pillow design is created using a colored graph system that indicates both color placement and stitch direction. This visual guide ensures accurate color changes and proper stitch orientation throughout the project, resulting in a cohesive and intentional design on the finished pillow.
