Product Description

This is my own pattern that fits 12" Blythe dolls.

Simple lace pattern that looks so pretty! Knit in one piece from the neck down.

This is knit on 2.75mm needles with sock weight yarn. I think it might look pretty knit in kid mohair too.

I have decorated with tiny crochet flowers but buttons would look equally nice.

Lacey Lovely Coat for Blythe Doll

What is Being Made

The Lacey Lovely coat is a delicate knitted garment designed specifically for Blythe dolls. This miniature coat features decorative lace elements created through strategic yarn-forward techniques, making it an elegant accessory piece for doll collectors and enthusiasts. The pattern produces a fitted coat with shaping achieved through strategic increases and decreases.

Knitting Techniques Used

This pattern employs several fundamental knitting techniques to create both structure and decorative detail:

  • Ribbed edging: The coat begins with K1, P1 rib worked over 3 rows, creating an elastic, finished edge that frames the garment
  • Yarn-forward lace: Wool forward (Wf) stitches are used to create intentional holes and decorative loops, which form the signature lacey appearance when worked into on subsequent rows
  • Strategic shaping: Multiple increase rows are worked throughout the pattern to expand the garment from an initial 32 stitches to 48 stitches and beyond, creating a properly proportioned silhouette for the doll
  • Stockinette stitch base: The main body is worked in stockinette stitch, providing a smooth, classic fabric foundation

Stitches Used

The pattern utilizes essential knitting stitches appropriate for small-scale garment construction:

  • Knit (K): The fundamental stitch forming the primary fabric
  • Purl (P): Used in ribbing and stockinette stitch rows to create texture and structure
  • Wool forward (Wf): Creates decorative eyelet holes by bringing the yarn to the front of the work, forming a loop over the needle that becomes a visible hole when worked into on the following row
  • Knit front and back (Kfb): An increase method that creates one additional stitch by knitting into both the front and back loops of a single stitch
  • Knit two together (K2tog): A decrease stitch that combines two stitches into one
  • Increase (Inc): Created by knitting into the horizontal strand between stitches on the needles and working into the back of the loop, a method that adds stitches without creating visible holes
  • Stockinette stitch (SS): The alternating knit and purl rows that form the smooth main fabric of the coat

Materials

The Lacey Lovely coat requires minimal materials appropriate for doll-scale knitting. The pattern calls for 2.75mm needles and pretty sock yarn in a 4-ply weight. Sock yarn is an excellent choice for miniature garments, offering fine gauge, durability, and a wide range of colors and patterns. The 4-ply weight provides the delicate fabric necessary for creating refined details on a small scale while maintaining enough structure for the coat to hold its shape on the doll.

Pattern Notes

The pattern emphasizes that increases are made using the horizontal strand method, knitting into the strand between stitches on the right and left needles and working into the back of the loop. This technique creates invisible increases that maintain the pattern's aesthetic integrity. The systematic placement of increases across multiple rows creates the fitted shaping required for a properly proportioned miniature coat.
