Product Description
As my brain rewires with my EMDR therapy, I find I’m a lot more present and grateful for what I have in my life. I’ve started taking more joy in the little things. I’ve slowed down a lot, instead of keeping myself in a state of “GO GO GO” as a distraction from bad situations I had in my life, I allow myself to stop and take in the world around me. To appreciate the unique and diverse people I have in my life. I’ve also started enjoying my misfit nature, no longer bullying myself for not fitting in or pressuring myself to fit in. I like being my weird little self! It’s like my blinders have been taken off, and I now see how beautiful the life around me truly is.
Worked flat, La vie est belle contains written directions and charts. A handy-dandy progress tracker is included to help you with your rows and stitch counts. Yardage for each section is given should you wish to turn this into a scrappy project!
La vie est belle Shawl by rhyFlower Knits
What is Being Made
La vie est belle is an intermediate-level knitted shawl designed by rhyFlower Knits. This downloadable PDF pattern creates a beautiful lace-weight shawl suitable for knitters with some experience in garment construction and lace techniques.
Shawl Construction and Design Features
The shawl is constructed using a modular section approach, allowing knitters flexibility in the finished size. The pattern includes multiple sections—specifically sections 2, 3, and 4—where knitters are able to repeat sections 2 and 3 independently without impacting the final section 4. This construction method enables customization based on available yardage, making it possible to create a larger or smaller finished piece while maintaining the intended shawl structure.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches Used
The pattern employs fundamental lace knitting techniques and stitch abbreviations including:
- Knit (K) and Purl (P) stitches as the foundation
- Yarn overs (yo) to create the characteristic openwork and lace appearance
- Decreases including K2tog (knit 2 stitches together), K3tog (knit 3 stitches together), and P2tog (purl 2 stitches together) to shape the fabric and balance yarn overs
- Slip stitches (Sl wyif) worked purlwise with yarn in front for edge definition
- Increases (Inc) and specialized techniques such as (k1, yo, k1) in 1 stitch, which involves knitting, leaving the stitch on the needle, yarning over, and knitting into the same stitch
Materials and Tools
Yarn Requirements: The pattern calls for 860 yards (787 meters) of lace weight yarn. The suggested yarn is Colorista Indulgence Dentelle, a blend of 50% Merino and 50% Silk, available in 875 yards (800 meters) per 3.5 ounces (100 grams). The recommended colorway is Soupir.
Needles and Notions: Knitters will need US5 (3.5 mm) circular needles measuring 40 inches (102 centimeters), or a size that allows achieving the desired gauge. A tapestry needle is required for finishing.
Skill Level and Gauge Considerations
This pattern is rated at intermediate difficulty, making it appropriate for knitters who have progressed beyond basic techniques and are comfortable working with lace patterns and multiple stitch types. The pattern emphasizes the importance of obtaining correct gauge to ensure proper fit and drape of the finished shawl.
