Product Description
This is a beautiful lace tunic with an unusually beautiful lace pattern. If you are like me, you prefer to wear something that will cover up a lot, so this is a project for you. The beautiful lace pattern creates a graceful look for the wearer, yet it is fancy enough to be worn at a wedding. The front is open with a large V-neckline. The bottom edge, fronts and cuffs are decorated with 3 mm gold beads. Since the number of stitches for each lace repeat is 19, I will give the instruction for this design in 2 sizes. Keep in mind that the design is loose fitting and may look large for a small size person, but it will be graceful anyways.
Finished Measurements: Bust: 44" (112 cm), 48" (122 cm) Total length: 33" (84 cm) Armhole depth: 10½" (27 cm) Sleeve length: 10" (25 cm)

K589 – Mother of the Bride's Tunic by Nazanin Fard
What is Being Made
The K589 – Mother of the Bride's Tunic is an elegant lace tunic designed for sophisticated occasions. This knitted garment features a graceful open front with a large V-neckline, making it an ideal choice for formal events such as weddings. The tunic provides generous coverage while maintaining an upscale, refined aesthetic. Available in two sizes—Medium with a 44" (112 cm) bust and Large with a 48" (122 cm) bust—the tunic has a total length of 33" (84 cm), an armhole depth of 10½" (27 cm), and short sleeves measuring 10" (25 cm).
Techniques and Construction
This intermediate-level knitting project showcases beautiful lace pattern work throughout the garment. The designer has incorporated decorative beadwork as a finishing technique, with approximately 3836 beads for the Medium size and 4124 beads for the Large size. The beads, measuring 3 mm in diameter, are applied to the bottom edge, front openings, and cuffs of the tunic, creating an embellished, polished appearance. The lace pattern is constructed using repeating stitch sequences that create the graceful, open-work aesthetic characteristic of lace knitting.
Stitches Used
While specific stitch names are not detailed in the pattern overview, the construction relies on lace knitting techniques. The pattern utilizes repeating lace motifs throughout the garment, which typically involve yarn-overs and decreases to create the open, decorative fabric structure. The beadwork is incorporated as an embellishment technique applied to specific edges and finishing areas of the tunic.
Materials
- Yarn: Super fine (fingering weight) yarn in an 80% Wool, 20% Rayon blend. Approximately 1800 yards (1646 meters) for the Medium size and 1900 yards (1738 meters) for the Large size are required from a total of 2250 yards (2057 meters) per pound (450 grams).
- Needles: US size 6 (4 mm) knitting needles, or the size needed to obtain the correct gauge for the pattern.
- Embellishments: Approximately 3836 to 4124 beads measuring 3 mm in diameter. The pattern allows flexibility in bead selection, permitting the use of metal, glass, or other decorative bead materials to suit personal preference and occasion.
Difficulty Level
This project is classified as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with some experience in lace knitting techniques and bead application.
