Jigglypuff Pokemon Knitted Toy by Andrew Lucas
Project Overview
This is a beginner-friendly knitting pattern for creating a Jigglypuff Pokemon character toy or decorative cover, approximately 9 centimeters in finished size. Designed by Andrew Lucas as a downloadable PDF pattern, this project combines basic knitting techniques to construct a charming, three-dimensional stuffed toy suitable for crafters new to amigurumi-style toy making.
What is Being Made
The pattern creates a Jigglypuff toy featuring a rounded body and feet. The finished piece can serve as a small plush toy or decorative cover. The design captures the character's distinctive round shape through strategic increases and decreases in stitching.
Materials Required
- 3.25mm knitting needles
- Double knitting wool in pink (primary color for body and feet)
- Double knitting wool in white, blue, and black (for facial features and details)
- Small amount of polyester fiberfill or toy stuffing
- Tapestry needle for finishing and sewing seams
Knitting Techniques Used
This beginner pattern employs fundamental knitting techniques including casting on, increasing stitches, decreasing stitches, and binding off. The pattern uses both stocking stitch (alternating knit and purl rows to create a smooth, uniform fabric) and garter stitch (knitting every row for a textured finish). Shaping is achieved through strategic increases at the beginning of the body and decreases toward the completion, creating the rounded Jigglypuff silhouette.
Stitches and Abbreviations
The pattern utilizes standard knitting abbreviations and techniques:
- k – knit stitch
- p – purl stitch
- inc – increase (adding stitches to widen the fabric)
- dec – decrease (reducing stitches to narrow the fabric)
- k2tog – knit two stitches together (a decrease method)
- p2tog – purl two stitches together (a decrease method)
- m1 – make one by knitting into the back of the loop between two stitches (an increase method)
- st st – stocking stitch (alternating knit and purl rows)
- gs – garter stitch (knitting every row)
- skpo – slip 1, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over (a decorative decrease)
- psso – pass slip stitch over
- sl – slip stitch
- tog – together
- alt – alternate
- B and T – bind and tie by threading the wool end on a tapestry needle and passing it through the stitches on the knitting needle, then drawing up the stitches and tying off
Construction Method
The toy is constructed in separate pieces that are then assembled. The body begins by casting on 25 stitches using pink double knitting wool on 3.25mm needles. An increase row immediately follows, where every stitch is increased to create 50 stitches, beginning with a purl row. The fabric then continues in stocking stitch for 23 rows, establishing the main rounded shape. Decreasing rows follow: first reducing to 25 stitches using knit-two-together decreases across the row, then to 13 stitches, and finally to 7 stitches before binding and tying off. The row ends are stitched together to form a three-dimensional sphere.
The feet are made as separate pieces (with the pattern indicating at least two feet are required). Each foot is cast on with 14 stitches in pink wool and worked in stocking stitch for 8 rows. These pieces are then sewn onto the body.
Finishing and Assembly
After knitting the individual pieces, the toy is assembled by stitching the row ends of the body together to create the rounded form. The feet are attached to the body
