Product Description
The Iron Lattice Cowl is worked bottom-up in circular knitting. The lower ribbed band is followed by the charted pattern, shown with two options: MC dark|CC light and MC light|CC dark. Slight neck shaping occurs in the last section of the charted pattern, followed by the upper ribbed band finished in 1/1 tubular bind-off. Instructions and charts are for one size, with an option for extending the height.
This pattern is inspired by a vintage cast iron floor vent cover found in my house (1912). Ornamental cast iron decorations were very popular in the Industrial Arts period (Art Deco Movement).
Gauge: 31 sts and 34 rows with 2.5 mm (US 1.5) circ needle in stranded patt (blocked) produces a 10 cm/4 in square. To achieve the finished dimensions, use the needle size required to meet gauge.
Techniques Used: Long tail cast-on; joining in the round; reading a colourwork chart; catching floats on WS; 1/1 tubular bind-off.
Level: Basic (stranded knitting)
