The Harlyn Cowl began as a simple experiment with a single skein of beautiful hand-dyed yarn and the question every crocheter eventually asks: what should I make with it? Having long enjoyed working Tunisian mosaic crochet in the round for blankets, I decided to adapt the technique into a cosy, wearable cowl. The mosaic pattern is created by pairing the hand-dyed main colour with a contrasting solid yarn, used for the Return Pass. This allows the simple repeating motif, worked in Tunisian Reverse Stitch on the Forward Pass, to stand out beautifully while making the most of the colour variation in the hand-dyed yarn. Worked in continuous spiral rounds using a double-ended Tunisian crochet hook, the cowl begins with a foundation round of double crochet (US single crochet) before transitioning to Tunisian crochet. A textured Tunisian Honeycomb Stitch border finishes the top edge, helping to minimise curling while adding a subtle decorative detail.
