Product Description
As the ice melts and the thaw frees up water from its winter rest, placid babbling brooks turn into streams and rivulets into rushing creeks. The water runs down over the rocky hillside towards the deep, launches itself off the cliff and is suspended in free fall, splashes and foams on rocks and transforms into thousand droplets of delicate mist that catch the sunlight and throw a rainbow back at the sun as thank you.
We had a really fun KAL starting April 21st 2014, the thread is a bit more quiet these days, but there is still a lot of great info in it, and help if you need! Thread for the KAL can be found [here][1].

Háifoss Crescent Shawl by OwlCat Designs
What is Being Made
Háifoss is a crescent-shaped shawl designed by OwlCat Designs, inspired by the dramatic cascade of waterfalls and the transformation of water as it falls from cliffs into mist and rainbows. This downloadable knitting pattern creates a shawl with a deep, lacey edge that captures the flowing, dynamic movement of rushing water.
Construction Method
The Háifoss shawl is worked top down, beginning with a garter tab foundation. The shawl is then knitted progressively downward toward the deep cut lacey edge, allowing the crescent shape to develop naturally as stitches are increased. This construction method provides excellent stitch definition and allows knitters to try on the shawl as it grows.
Stitches and Techniques
- Garter stitch forms the foundation tab at the top of the shawl
- Lace stitches create the signature deep, lacey edge that defines the shawl's lower portion
- Increases are worked throughout to shape the crescent silhouette
- Optional beading can be incorporated throughout the pattern for added embellishment and sparkle
Yarn and Materials
Háifoss is designed for lace weight yarn. The pattern specifies Dream In Color 'Wisp' (50% Merino Wool, 50% Silk blend) in two colorways: 'Surf' and 'Crisp', requiring approximately 330 yards total. The combination of merino wool and silk creates a luxurious fabric with excellent drape, ideal for showcasing the delicate lacework of this shawl.
Skill Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with some experience in lace knitting and shaping techniques. Familiarity with reading lace charts and managing yarn overs and decreases is recommended.
