Product Description
Natural sunlight is made up of different wavelengths of light and each wavelength is a particular color. Think rainbows and the visible color spectrum!
For my Color of Light shawl, I used the lovely Cascade Yarns® Merino Dream that is a brightly colored, hand-dyed single-ply fingering weight yarn (437 yards/100 grams) that comes in eight beautiful variegated colors.
The Color of Light shawl starts at the bottom point and is crocheted upwards in straight rows forming a large right-angle triangle. The main body section and end section of the shawl are both easy two-row repeats and there is no stitch or row counting, with stopping points determined by measuring.
The stitch patterns are interesting and one flows into the next and with no stitch or row counting this shawl is truly a relaxing crochet pattern that you can work on while watching movies, visiting with friends, or traveling.

What is Being Made
The Color of Light is a crocheted shawl designed by CJ Brady Designs that showcases the interplay of color and light through fiber craftsmanship. This triangular shawl is constructed as a large right-angle triangle, starting from a bottom point and building upwards in straight rows. The design celebrates how different wavelengths of light create the colors we perceive, drawing inspiration from natural sunlight and the visible color spectrum.
Crochet Techniques and Construction
This beginner-friendly shawl employs straightforward crochet construction methods that make it accessible to newer crafters. Stitches Used
While the pattern emphasizes easy, beginner-appropriate stitches, the specific stitch details are part of the complete downloadable PDF pattern. The straightforward stitch work allows the beauty of the hand-dyed yarn to become the focal point of the finished shawl.
Materials and Yarn
The Color of Light shawl is designed to showcase Cascade Yarns Merino Dream, a hand-dyed single-ply fingering weight yarn available in eight beautiful variegated colors. Each skein contains 437 yards and weighs 100 grams. The yarn's brightly colored, variegated nature means the color shifts throughout the shawl, creating visual interest and demonstrating how different hues interact when worked together in a single project. The fingering weight yarn combined with crochet creates a fabric with excellent drape, ideal for a shawl's flowing silhouette.
