Product Description
Placing the last teacup gently on its saucer she couldn’t help but feel so grown up. This was her first real tea set, and she was about to host her first tea party. She was reminded of the many childhood tea parties with her sisters using their pink and purple plastic tea set. Her sisters were due to arrive any minute. The chai tea had just started brewing in her cherry blossom tea pot, the matching teacups sat patiently awaiting their hot tea.
Cherry Blossoms is a cuff down sock pattern knit in a luxurious alpaca-silk-cashmere blend. A sweet cherry blossom design along the side of socks is created using duplicate stitches. This design was inspired by my first grown-up tea set.
The pictures shown have the Cherry Blossoms knit with intarsia, although after going through testing, the pattern was updated for duplicate stitch instead. Either method can be used, but the duplicate stitch will give a cleaner and neater finish due to the delicate cherry blossom design.
Cherry Blossoms Socks by Spivay Song Knits
Project Overview
Cherry Blossoms is a downloadable knitting pattern for cuff-down socks designed by Spivay Song Knits. This intermediate-level sock pattern features a delicate cherry blossom motif and is crafted using a luxurious fiber blend, making it an elegant choice for knitters seeking a refined finished garment inspired by the aesthetic of a grown-up tea set.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a pair of socks with a decorative cherry blossom design. The socks are available in five sizes—XS, S, M, L, and XL—to accommodate foot circumferences ranging from approximately 7.5 inches to 9.25 inches (19 to 22.5 centimeters). The cuff-down construction method allows knitters to begin at the top of the sock and work downward toward the toe, a popular technique that provides flexibility in fit and length adjustments.
Techniques and Stitches Used
The primary decorative technique employed in this pattern is duplicate stitch, a surface embroidery method worked after the main knitting is complete. The cherry blossom design is positioned along the side of the socks using this technique, allowing the floral motif to be added without increasing complexity during the main knitting process. The pattern also utilizes standard sock knitting stitches, including purl stitches and purl two stitches together (p2tog) decreases, which are essential for shaping the sock structure and creating fitted ankles and feet.
Materials: Yarn and Tools
Cherry Blossoms socks are knit using a 4-ply yarn weight in a luxurious blend of alpaca, silk, and cashmere. This fiber combination provides softness, breathability, and a subtle sheen characteristic of premium sock yarn. Knitters will need appropriate knitting needles sized for 4-ply yarn, typically in the range suitable for sock knitting (generally US sizes 1–3, depending on individual gauge and preference). The downloadable PDF format includes all necessary pattern instructions, stitch abbreviations, and sizing information for completing the project.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate in difficulty, making it suitable for knitters with foundational sock-knitting experience. While cuff-down sock construction and basic decreases are straightforward, the addition of the duplicate stitch cherry blossom design adds a decorative element that requires attention to detail and familiarity with embroidery techniques on knitted fabric.
