Product Description
This is my Cath Kidston inspired finger less mitts pattern. I wanted to design a granny square based mittens pattern that looked like the Cath Kidston roses.
These mitts are a relatively quick and easy make, using SC, HDC, DC stitches. It also uses front and back post stitches.
The pattern uses less than 26g of each of the colours. I used Stylecraft Special DK yarn which is a acrylic 8ply yarn and a 3mm hook.
Each square measures 5cmx5cm.
10.01.21 - I've also added a bonus pattern = the matching rose hot water bottle cover. This is for 1 litre hot water bottles.
14.03.21. I've also added a matching cowl pattern.
25.04.23 Ive added a maching rose square bag.
PDF consists of 4 patterns It is written in US terms and includes written instructions and colour photos.
Cath Kidston Inspired Mitts, Cowl and Hot Water Bottle Cover
Overview
This downloadable crochet pattern collection by Cute Crochet Makes features three coordinated projects inspired by Cath Kidston's aesthetic: a pair of Rose Mitts, a matching cowl, and a hot water bottle cover. All three designs utilize the same modular construction technique and color palette, making them ideal for creating a cohesive, coordinated set. The intermediate difficulty level makes these projects suitable for crocheters with foundational skills who are ready to work with multi-color techniques and post stitches.
Rose Mitts
What is Being Made: The Rose Mitts are fingerless gloves constructed from crocheted squares that are assembled together. Each mitt is made from 12 individual squares, with a total of 24 squares required for the pair.
Construction and Techniques: The Rose Mitts use a modular square construction method, where each square measures 5cm x 5cm and is worked individually before being joined together. This technique allows for easy color changes and creates a patchwork effect. The pattern employs post stitches—specifically front post half double crochet (FPHDC) and back post half double crochet (BPHDC)—which add texture and dimension to the finished mitts. The use of a magic ring (MR) provides a neat center starting point for each square.
Stitches Used: The pattern utilizes the following crochet stitches:
- Chain (CH)
- Single crochet (SC)
- Half double crochet (HDC)
- Double crochet (DC)
- Front post half double crochet (FPHDC)
- Back post half double crochet (BPHDC)
- Front post double crochet (FPDC)
- Back post double crochet (BPDC)
- Single crochet decrease (SC2TOG)
- Slip stitch (SLST)
Materials: The Rose Mitts are worked with a 3mm crochet hook using Stylecraft Special DK yarn in four colors: Cream (22g), Fondant (26g), Spring Green (14g), and Pomegranate (18g). The yarn is 100% premium acrylic, with a yardage of approximately 295 metres per 100g. The DK weight yarn creates a fabric with good drape and definition suitable for fitted mitts.
Cowl
What is Being Made: A coordinating cowl (neck warmer) that complements the Rose Mitts, designed to be worn around the neck for warmth and style.
Construction and Techniques: While specific construction details for the cowl are not fully detailed in the provided excerpt, the pattern follows the same design philosophy as the mitts, utilizing modular square construction and the same color palette to create a unified look.
Materials: The cowl uses the same Stylecraft Special DK yarn in the four coordinating colors (Cream, Fondant, Spring Green, and Pomegranate) and is worked with a 3mm crochet hook.
Hot Water Bottle Cover
What is Being Made: A decorative and functional cover for a hot water bottle, designed to match the mitts and cowl for a coordinated accessory set.
Construction and Techniques: The hot water bottle cover employs the same modular square construction method as the other projects in this collection, allowing for consistent patchwork patterning and easy color blocking.
Materials: Like the other pieces, the hot water bottle cover is made using Stylecraft Special DK yarn in Cream, Fondant, Spring Green, and Pomegranate, worked with a 3mm crochet hook.
Pattern Format and Terminology
The pattern is written in US crochet terminology with UK equivalents provided for international crocheters. This dual notation ensures accessibility for a wider audience. The pattern is provided as a downloadable PDF, allowing crafters to access and reference the instructions digitally or print them for use while working.
Yarn Weight and Difficulty
All three projects use DK (double knitting) weight yarn, which is a medium weight that works up quickly while maintaining good stitch definition. The intermediate difficulty level indicates that these projects require knowledge of basic crochet stitches and comfort with techniques
