I have also included a "how to corner to corner crochet" guide for those who might not have crocheted an image. The guide also has a border option for those who may want to add a decorative edge to their finished blanket.
The finished blanket will be a different size depending on the yarn you use (using 4ply gives you a lovely baby blanket size)

C2C Big Star Corner to Corner Blanket by Instarsia
Project Overview
The Big Star Corner to Corner Blanket is a crochet project designed by EJ Heywood of Instarsia that creates a striking geometric star pattern. This downloadable PDF pattern provides a picture chart suitable for crafters working at an intermediate skill level. The finished blanket features a bold star design rendered in contrasting colors, making it an eye-catching throw or decorative blanket suitable for various home décor styles.
What Is Being Made
This pattern produces a blanket or throw featuring a large star motif as the central design element. The project uses a picture chart format that maps out the color placement across the entire blanket, allowing crafters to visualize the finished design before beginning work. The chart dimensions indicate a substantial finished size suitable for use as a lap blanket or decorative throw.
Corner to Corner (C2C) Technique
Corner to Corner crochet is a method of constructing blankets by working diagonally from one corner of the piece to the opposite corner. This technique builds the fabric in a series of diagonal rows, with each row expanding the blanket's dimensions. The C2C method is particularly well-suited to picture chart patterns because it allows crafters to follow a grid-based design easily, changing yarn colors as indicated by the chart to create the desired image. This approach eliminates the need for complex stitch manipulations and makes color changes straightforward and manageable.
Stitches and Techniques Used
The Corner to Corner method relies on fundamental crochet stitches executed in a specific sequence to build the diagonal structure. The pattern uses a picture chart with a grid system where each square represents a stitch or block unit. Crafters follow the chart row by row, working from corner to corner and changing yarn colors according to the color key provided. The chart indicates color placement using a simple legend: Red and Yellow sections define the star pattern against the background.
Materials Required
This pattern is designed for DK weight yarn, a medium-weight yarn that provides good stitch definition while working at a manageable pace. Crafters will need yarn in at least two colors to execute the design as shown: red for the star and yellow for contrast, with an additional neutral color likely needed for the background. A crochet hook appropriate for DK weight yarn is required; the specific hook size should be confirmed in the full pattern instructions. The total yardage needed depends on the final blanket dimensions, which are indicated by the chart's 82x82 grid structure.
Pattern Format and Features
The pattern is provided as a downloadable PDF document containing a detailed picture chart. The chart uses a numbered grid system with rows numbered from 1 to 82 and columns similarly marked, allowing crafters to track their progress systematically. This format makes it easy to locate your position in the pattern and ensures accuracy when following the color changes. The Instarsia design is noted as interchangeable, meaning the same chart can be adapted for different crochet techniques or even converted for knitting projects, offering versatility for crafters with different skill sets.
Difficulty Level
Rated as intermediate, this project assumes crafters have foundational crochet knowledge and are comfortable with basic stitches and color changes. The Corner to Corner technique itself is accessible to intermediate crafters, though the large scale of the blanket and the need to maintain consistent tension throughout the project requires focus and experience. The picture chart format simplifies the design process compared to written instructions, making it an excellent choice for intermediate crafters looking to expand their skills with a visually impressive finished product.
