Product Description
I’ve had this hat idea buzzing around my head for far too long! So, I finally put pencil to my graph paper, and that’s where the magic happened.
The Buzz Bee-nie is such a fun pattern with 4 different charts that you can mix and match on one hat.
Designed to be knit with just two colors, but you cam also try adding in some duplicate stitches to really make your bee pop(as seen in last photo)!
This pattern is for personal use only and may not be copied or redistributed. You may sell items made from this pattern with the pattern credit going back to Knits N Knacks on every listing/item.
Buzz Bee-nie Knit Hat Pattern
Design Overview
The Buzz Bee-nie is a knitted beanie hat designed by Athena Forbes and published by Knits N Knacks. This intermediate-level knitting project features a playful bee-themed design that combines colorwork techniques with classic hat construction. The pattern is available as a downloadable PDF suitable for knitters with some experience beyond basic skills.
What Is Being Made
This pattern creates a fitted knit beanie hat with a bee motif. The design incorporates colorwork elements that form the bee pattern across the crown of the hat, making it a visually distinctive accessory suitable for casual wear or as a themed gift.
Knitting Techniques Used
- Colorwork: The pattern employs stranded colorwork techniques, where multiple yarn colors are carried and floated across rows to create the bee design. Knitters wrap or carry the non-working yarn around the working yarn to maintain tension and prevent long floats.
- Decreasing: The crown shaping uses knit 2 stitches together (K2tog) decreases to gradually reduce stitches and form the hat's fitted top.
- Through-the-back-loop knitting: The pattern incorporates knit through back loop (Ktbl) stitches for textural variation or shaping purposes.
Stitches Used
- Knit (K): The fundamental stitch forming the base fabric
- Purl (P): Used to create texture and pattern definition
- Knit 2 Together (K2tog): A right-leaning decrease used for crown shaping
- Knit Through Back Loop (Ktbl): Creates twisted stitches for added texture or structural shaping
Materials and Yarn Specifications
This pattern is designed for worsted weight yarn, specifically recommending Patons Classic Wool or similar worsted weight alternatives. Worsted weight yarn creates a durable, warm fabric suitable for winter hat wear. The pattern requires at least two yarn colors to execute the bee-themed colorwork design. Knitters will need appropriate needles for worsted weight yarn, typically in the US 7-9 range, though the specific needle size should be verified in the complete pattern document.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate, making it appropriate for knitters who have mastered basic stitches and simple projects. The intermediate classification reflects the colorwork technique requirements and the need to manage multiple yarn colors while maintaining even tension and stitch consistency.
