Product Description
DESCRIPTION This crochet shoulder bag features the lovely x stitch. Annie’s Bag is a large crochet tote designed to have a sturdy, solid bottom. This free tote bag pattern is both a fun and useful summer crochet project. The open side details makes for an interesting bag. The x stitch or crossed double crochet is my favorite part of this crochet shoulder bag. Especially when it’s crocheted in contrasting colors to the bottom and strap. Crochet this beautiful bag in your favorite cotton yarn. That makes it usable in real life, because then you can wash it. I love that part about cotton yarn, so soft and washable.

Project Overview
Annie's Bag is an intermediate-level crochet project designed by ChristaCoDesign (Crystal Marin). This downloadable PDF pattern provides instructions for creating a finished bag using a combination of worsted weight and aran weight yarns in a two-color colorway.
What Is Being Made
Annie's Bag is a crocheted tote or everyday bag constructed using a structured approach that begins with the bottom panel and builds upward. The design features color blocking with two distinct yarn colors that create visual interest and dimension in the finished piece.
Crochet Techniques Used
This pattern employs several fundamental and intermediate crochet techniques suitable for crafters with some experience. The construction method includes:
- Continuous rounds worked without joining, allowing for seamless progression around the bottom of the bag
- Chain stitches that serve as foundational elements and stitch counts
- Round-based construction that requires stitch marking to track the beginning of each round
- Color work utilizing two coordinating yarn colors (Color A and Color B) to create a multi-toned finished piece
Stitches and Construction Details
The pattern utilizes chain stitches as a primary structural component, with the notation that ch 4 counts as a stitch within the pattern instructions. This is an important gauge consideration for proper sizing. The bottom section of the bag is worked in continuous rounds without joining, which creates a smooth, uninterrupted base. Stitch markers are essential tools for tracking the first stitch of each round during this construction phase.
Materials Required
Annie's Bag requires 360 yards total of medium worsted weight yarn distributed across two colors. The pattern is pictured using Hobby Lobby's I Love This Cotton yarn in two colorways:
- Color A: Stonewash (2 balls)
- Color B: Periwinkle (2 balls)
Additional supplies include a 5.5 mm crochet hook, yarn needle for weaving in ends, measuring tape for sizing verification, and scissors for cutting yarn.
Difficulty Level
This pattern is rated as intermediate, making it suitable for crocheters who have mastered basic stitches and are ready to work with slightly more complex construction methods such as continuous rounds and color changes. The techniques required are accessible but assume foundational crochet knowledge.
