Angel Doll by Samantha Bagley
What is Being Made
The Angel Doll is an adorable amigurumi-style crocheted doll designed as a guardian figure. This intermediate-level crochet project creates a finished doll measuring 13 inches when standing and 9 inches when sitting. The design features a charming character suitable for display, gifting, or as a decorative piece inspired by recognizable pop culture references.
Crochet Techniques Used
This pattern employs several specialized crochet techniques to achieve its finished appearance. The construction utilizes bobble stitch for textured detail work and V-stitch for decorative elements throughout the design. The pattern also incorporates the invisible decrease technique, which creates seamless shaping and a polished finish on the doll's body. These specialty stitches are combined with fundamental crochet methods to build the three-dimensional form.
Stitches Used
The Angel Doll pattern uses the following crochet stitches:
- Chain (Ch) – foundation stitch for starting sections
- Single Crochet (SC) – primary stitch for building the doll's body and structure
- Double Crochet (DC) – used for height and texture variation
- Slip Stitch (Sl st) – for joining rounds and finishing edges
- Single Crochet Two Together (Sc2tog) – invisible decrease method for shaping
- V-Stitch (V-St) – specialty stitch creating decorative fan-like patterns
- Bobble Stitch – specialty stitch for textured embellishment
- Back Loop Only (BLO) – technique for creating ribbed or textured effects
Materials and Tools
Yarn: The pattern calls for any worsted weight yarn (4 weight). You will need 2 skeins of your main color and 1 skein of a contrasting color to complete the doll.
Hooks: Two crochet hooks are required – an H hook and an E hook – allowing for gauge variation and different stitch sizes throughout the project.
Additional Notions: A yarn needle for weaving in ends, scissors, stitch markers for tracking rounds, fiberfill for stuffing, 1 elastic hair tie, and 2 small scrunchie hair ties for styling the doll's hair (as shown in pattern photos).
Gauge and Sizing
The pattern specifies a gauge of 6½ single crochet stitches and 7 rounds measuring 2 inches. Working to the correct gauge ensures your finished Angel Doll achieves the intended dimensions of 13 inches standing height and 9 inches sitting height.
