Product Description

A boxy dropped shoulder top featuring fun stranded colourwork on the yoke, Valley Yarns Juneberry is a great pick for adding to your summer wardrobe. Silky smooth Goshen yarn ensures that you will be cool and comfortable with its blend of cotton, modal, and silk that works up into a fabric with great drape. Knit in the round from the hem to the underarms, sleeve stitches are cast on as well as steek stitches to allow working the colourwork yoke seamlessly in the round. Once the yoke is complete, the sleeve steeks are secured and cut and the back and front are seamed together at the shoulders. Stitches are picked up around the neck and sleeves and ribbed trims are knit in the round for a tidy finish. colourwork pattern is charted only.

1328 Juneberry Knitting Pattern for Women

Project Overview

Designer: Julie Turjoman

The 1328 Juneberry is an intermediate-level knitting pattern designed for a versatile women's jumper that combines minimalist colorwork with elegant simplicity. This short-sleeved pullover features a boat neckline and is crafted to be the perfect layering piece for warm-weather styling, whether worn over a sundress or paired with jeans for casual wear.

What Is Being Made

This pattern creates a fitted short-sleeved tee-style jumper with a boat neck silhouette. The garment is designed in nine sizes ranging from XS to 5XL, with finished bust measurements from 32 inches to 64 inches. The design accommodates 2 to 4 inches of positive ease, allowing for comfortable wearing room. The sample shown in the pattern is knitted in size Small.

Techniques Used

The 1328 Juneberry employs several key knitting techniques to achieve its polished construction:

  • Bottom-up construction: The garment is knitted from the lower edge upward, allowing for straightforward shaping and fitting adjustments
  • Worked flat and in the round: The pattern utilizes both flat and circular knitting methods depending on the garment section
  • Seamless construction: Strategic use of circular needles minimizes seaming, creating a smooth, professional finish
  • Stranded colorwork: A minimalist colorwork design is featured around the yoke area, using the stranded technique to integrate multiple colors while maintaining fabric integrity

Stitches and Stitch Details

While specific stitch abbreviations are not detailed in the provided pattern excerpt, the design incorporates fundamental knitting stitches combined with colorwork techniques. The stranded colorwork around the yoke creates visual interest through color changes while maintaining consistent gauge and fabric structure. Simple shaping throughout the body and sleeves ensures an accessible intermediate-level project.

Materials and Yarn Specifications

Yarn: Valley Yarns Goshen, a worsted-weight yarn composed of 48% Peruvian Cotton, 46% Modal, and 6% Silk. This blend provides a cool, breathable fabric with an airy drape—ideal for warm-weather wear. Each skein yields 92 yards and weighs 50 grams.

Yarn quantities required:

  • Main Color (MC) - Steel (Color 26): 4 to 10 skeins depending on size, with smaller sizes requiring 4 skeins and larger sizes up to 5XL requiring 10 skeins
  • Contrast Color 1 (CC1) - Lake (Color 12): 2 to 4 skeins, scaled by size
  • Contrast Color 2 (CC2) - Natural (Color 02): 3 to 6 skeins, scaled by size

Needles: US 7 (4.50 mm) circular needles in 32-inch to 40-inch lengths are used for the main fabric. US 8 (5.00 mm) needles are also specified in the pattern. Knitters should select the needle size that achieves the required gauge for their yarn.

Difficulty Level

This pattern is rated as intermediate, making it suitable for knitters with foundational skills who are ready to tackle colorwork and garment shaping. The combination of stranded colorwork and seamless construction techniques requires comfort with managing multiple yarn colors and working with circular needles, but the minimalist approach to design keeps the pattern approachable.

Yarn Weight and Gauge Considerations

Worsted-weight yarn creates a fabric with good drape and structure. The cotton-modal-silk blend of Valley Yarns Goshen produces a particularly fluid, breathable fabric suitable for layering in warm weather. Achieving proper gauge with the specified needle sizes is essential for accurate finished measurements and proper fit across all size ranges.
