Product Description
Valley Yarns
Antares is a stunning lacey women’s jumper knit in Goshen, one of the softest
cotton blends you can find. The Modal® and silk not only add a slight sheen but also enhance the durability of this gorgeous cotton yarn. The three-quarter
sleeve boatneck topper works beautifully over a tank or cami. The pattern
offers two options: a tunic length with A-line shaping or a waist-length boxy
version. Antares is knit flat in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed. The cable lace patterns are charted and
written out.

1307 Antares: Women's Lace Cable Jumper Knitting Pattern by Julie Turjoman
The 1307 Antares is an elegant women's pullover knitting pattern designed by Julie Turjoman and published by Valley Yarns. This intermediate-level pattern offers two distinct length options — a cropped, waist-length boxy version and a hip-length A-line tunic version — making it a versatile addition to any knitter's wardrobe. The design features an allover Cable Lace stitch worked at a deliberately loose gauge to allow the lace to open up beautifully, giving the finished garment an airy, flowing quality that works perfectly over a tank top or camisole. The boatneck neckline adds a relaxed, contemporary silhouette that appeals to a wide range of knitters.
Design Options and Sizing
The Antares pattern is available in eight sizes ranging from XS through 4XL, with finished bust measurements spanning 32 to 60½ inches. The pattern is designed to be worn with 2 to 4 inches of positive ease, ensuring a comfortable, relaxed fit. The two length options provide meaningful versatility:
- Cropped Version: A straight, boxy silhouette ending at the waist, offering ease of movement and a modern, casual aesthetic.
- Tunic Version: A longer, hip-length design with A-line shaping achieved through side decreases worked in the narrow reverse stockinette sections, creating a gentle flare from hip to bust. Finished hip measurements range from 37½ to 66 inches across all sizes.
Both versions feature three-quarter-length sleeves worked down from drop shoulders, making this a seasonally flexible garment suited to warmer months or layering in cooler weather.
Construction and Techniques
The Antares jumper is constructed as a pieced, seamed garment worked flat from the bottom up. The seamed construction is a deliberate design choice, as it adds structure and support to the naturally soft and drapey Valley Yarns Goshen yarn. Working the pieces flat and seaming them together helps the finished garment maintain its shape over time.
The sleeves are worked differently from the body — they are knitted in the round, worked downward from the drop shoulders, with the lace pattern bordered by reverse stockinette sections for a clean, defined edge. This combination of flat and in-the-round construction gives knitters practice with both approaches within a single project.
Key techniques used in this pattern include:
- Cable Lace stitch: The signature allover stitch pattern that gives Antares its distinctive texture. Working cables and lace together creates a fabric with both visual depth and open, breathable structure.
- Cables: Worked with a cable needle, adding dimension and interest to the lace fabric.
- Lace: Open stitch work that is intentionally worked on larger-than-standard needles to enhance drape and airiness.
- Reverse stockinette sections: Used as borders and to frame the lace pattern, as well as to work the A-line side shaping in the tunic version.
- Bottom-up construction: Pieces begin at the lower edge and are worked upward.
- Seaming: Finished pieces are joined using a tapestry needle to create a structured, polished garment.
- Working flat and in the round: The body is worked flat; the sleeves are worked in the round.
Yarn and Materials
This pattern is specifically designed for Valley Yarns Goshen, a luxurious worsted weight yarn with a fiber composition of 48% Peruvian Cotton, 46% Modal, and 6% Silk, available in 50g skeins of approximately 92 yards each. The sample garments were knitted in Color 12 – Lake. The cotton, Modal, and silk blend gives Goshen exceptional breathability, softness, and drape — qualities that are particularly well-suited to a lace-forward design like Antares.
