Product Description
This is a lace scarf made to be suitable for both men and women. It is made from a lovely silk/merino mix which gives it a wonderful soft drape and makes it super comfortable to wear. There are also instructions for a skinny scarf that has been made from soft extra fine merino and can be worn around the head as a headband or wrap or as a decorative accessory. This is a great scarf for a Christmas present for those men in your life that are hard to find something for.
It is an intermediate level pattern as the lace stitches used and the placement of them make it a little tricky for a beginner.
Windblown Leaves has been tested by the wonderful testers in the [Happy Hookers Hangout][1].

Windblown Leaves Scarf by Sarahjanedesigns
What is Being Made
The Windblown Leaves Scarf is a versatile lace scarf designed for unisex wear. This downloadable crochet pattern creates a skinny scarf measuring 22 centimeters (9 inches) in width and 1.5 meters (60 inches) in length, excluding fringe. The design is suitable for both men and women, offering multiple styling options including traditional neck wear, headband, or decorative wrap.
Crochet Techniques and Construction
This intermediate-level crochet project employs lace-work techniques to create an open, delicate fabric structure. The scarf is constructed using a foundation double crochet method to establish the initial 217 stitches, which forms the base for the lace pattern development. The open lace construction allows for excellent drape and breathability, making it suitable for year-round wear.
Stitches Used
The pattern utilizes fundamental crochet stitches including:
- Chain stitches (ch) – used for foundation and pattern spacing
- Single crochet (sc) – incorporated in the foundation double crochet technique
- Double crochet (dc) – primary stitch for creating the lace structure and drape
The combination of these stitches creates the characteristic windblown leaf aesthetic while maintaining structural integrity throughout the scarf length.
Materials and Tools
The Windblown Leaves Scarf pattern calls for dk (double knit) weight yarn, with two material options provided:
- Skein Set in 15/40NM dk weight merino and silk blend from Colourmart, requiring 5 skeins at 150 yards each (750 yards total)
- Alternative: dk weight extra fine merino from Colourmart
The merino and silk blend option offers a luxurious soft drape and exceptional comfort against the skin, while the extra fine merino provides a more economical alternative with excellent softness. A 4mm (US size 6) crochet hook is required, or any hook size that achieves proper tension for your chosen yarn. A yarn needle is needed for finishing and weaving in ends.
Gauge and Difficulty Level
This is an intermediate-level pattern suitable for crocheters with foundational skills. Notably, gauge is not critical for this project, making it more forgiving for crafters still developing tension consistency. This accessibility factor makes it an excellent intermediate project for building confidence with lace techniques.
