What is Being Made

The Sycamore Armwarmers are a pair of knitted arm coverings designed as a one-size garment. Each completed armwarmer measures 10.5 cm (4 inches) wide and 24 cm (9½ inches) long, making them a versatile accessory suitable for layering or warmth. Two armwarmers are created as part of the project using the same pattern instructions.

Knitting Techniques

This intermediate-level knitting project offers flexibility in construction method. The armwarmers can be knitted in rows using straight needles, or alternatively worked in rounds using either circular needles or a set of double-pointed needles. This adaptability allows knitters to choose their preferred technique based on skill level and available tools. The pattern begins with a ribbed bottom welt, which is a classic technique for creating elasticated edges that hug the arm comfortably.

The Sycamore Armwarmers incorporate fundamental knitting stitches suitable for intermediate crafters. The construction begins with knit and purl ribbing (K2, P2 repeat pattern) for the bottom welt, which creates the fitted edge. The main body is worked in patterned stockinette stitch, combining knit and purl stitches in a structured pattern that adds visual interest while maintaining a smooth, refined fabric surface.

Materials and Yarn Specifications

This project uses 4-ply yarn weight, which is a lightweight yet versatile yarn suitable for creating garments with good drape and definition. The pattern calls for a total of 10 different yarn colors from the British Breeds collection, with each color requiring 1 x 25gm (approximately 25 grams). The color palette includes:

Needles Required
