Product Description
"Shifted" is a new take on a very old pattern of mine, "Shifting". Simple cables, gorgeous color and comfortable fit will make this sweater a staple in your wardrobe for sure!.
The pullover is worked seamlessly from the bottom up. The entire body is worked in cable pattern based on simple 3/3 cables. Front and back are divided at armholes and shaped separately then joined at the shoulders. Stitches are picked up around the neck which is then finished with a neckband. Finally, the stockinette sleeves with ribbed cuffs are worked in the round.
Shifted Knitting Pattern by Justyna Lorkowska
What is Being Made
Shifted is a knitted sweater designed by Justyna Lorkowska and published by Lete's Knits. This pattern offers seven size options ranging from extra-small through 3XL, with finished body measurements from 97.5 cm (37.5") to 156 cm (60") to accommodate various body types. The sample shown features size M with a finished bust measurement of 99 cm (39"). The sweater is designed as a beginner-level project, making it accessible to knitters who are new to garment construction.
Techniques Used
The Shifted sweater incorporates short rows as a key construction technique. This advanced shaping method is worked using the wrap-and-turn method, which creates fitted shaping without visible interruptions in the fabric. When executing short rows with this technique, knitters must pick up the wrap and place it back on the needle in the subsequent row or round to ensure the wrapped stitches remain invisible and create a seamless appearance in the finished garment.
Stitches Used
- 2x2 Rib - worked in the round over an even number of stitches using the pattern *k2, p2* repeated around. This elastic stitch is typically used for cuffs and edges to provide stretch and recovery.
- Stockinette Stitch - worked in the round with all stitches knitted on every round. This fundamental stitch creates a smooth, classic fabric texture and forms the main body of the sweater.
Materials
The Shifted sweater is knitted using Martin's Lab Bouncy Sport yarn, a sport-weight yarn composed of 100% Merino fiber. Each skein contains 300 meters or 328 yards per 100 grams. The pattern requires 4 to 7 skeins depending on size selection, with the sample shown knitted in the colorway Dry Leaves. Knitting is worked on 4.0 mm needles. The pattern recommends 15 to 20 cm (6 to 8") positive ease for an optimal fit.
