Product Description
This is to crochet a Nyanko sensei that is lying flat, there are no legs as he's cute and all happily flopped on the ground. I needlefelted a lot of the features on and there are instructions on how I did that included on my blog. If you don't want to or don't know how to needlefelt, you can always sew felt pieces on in the right shape and embroider the facial features instead!
There is no guage as this is a toy and can be make to any size.
Nyanko Sensei Plush Crochet Pattern
What Is Being Made
This is a beginner-friendly crochet plush toy pattern for Nyanko Sensei, designed by Gardensofmay. The pattern creates a stuffed amigurumi-style toy through crocheted construction, with customizable embellishment options for facial features and details.
Crochet Techniques Used
The pattern employs fundamental amigurumi construction techniques suitable for beginners. The primary method involves working in continuous rounds to create three-dimensional forms. The body is constructed as an oval shape that gradually tapers from the tail end toward the head, allowing crafters to work methodically from one end to the other. The pattern includes optional needlefelting for adding details, though alternative finishing methods are explicitly supported by the designer.
Crochet Stitches Used
- Chain stitch (CH): Used to establish the foundation for the body piece
- Single crochet (SC): The primary stitch throughout the pattern, worked in continuous rounds to build the plush structure
- Single crochet increase (2SC): Used in early rounds to expand the piece and create the widest sections of the body
- Single crochet decrease (SC2tog): Employed in later rounds to taper and shape the form toward completion
Pattern Structure and Construction
The body begins with a small foundation and expands through strategic increases across 8 rounds, growing from 6 stitches to a maximum of 48 stitches. This expansion phase creates the main body volume. The pattern then maintains consistent stitch count for 14 rounds to establish length and structure. Decreases are then introduced to taper the piece toward the head section, with the pattern reducing from 48 stitches back down through 42 and 36 stitches in subsequent rounds.
Materials and Tools
This crochet project requires yarn suitable for amigurumi work and an appropriately sized crochet hook to match the yarn weight. The pattern is designed to be worked with standard crochet tools. For embellishment, crafters may use needlefelting supplies, or alternatively, fabric pieces, fabric paint, or other decorative methods as preferred. Fiberfill or polyester stuffing is implied for filling the completed plush toy.
Design Notes
The designer provides helpful guidance for crafters, suggesting the use of stitch markers to identify the top of the body piece during construction. The option to leave the tail attached until after completing the head section is recommended for easier handling. The pattern explicitly welcomes customization of facial features and details through multiple finishing techniques, making it accessible to crafters with varying skill levels and material preferences.
