Finch Vest by Annie Haas

What is Being Made

The Finch Vest is a versatile knitted waistcoat designed by Annie Haas that can be dressed up or down for multiple occasions. This piece features a hi-lo silhouette and is suitable for layering over t-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, dresses, or skirts. The vest incorporates a dainty mock lace motif that adds a feminine aesthetic to the design, making it a practical yet stylish addition to any wardrobe.

Techniques Used

This intermediate-level knitting project utilizes fundamental knitting techniques suitable for knitters with some experience. The construction involves working with circular needles to create the body of the vest, with the mock lace motif integrated throughout the pattern. The hi-lo shaping requires understanding of increases and decreases to achieve the asymmetrical hemline. Double-pointed needles are optionally used for smaller circumference sections, demonstrating versatility in needle choice for different pattern sections.

Stitches Used

The primary stitch structure is stockinette stitch, which forms the foundation of the vest. The pattern features a mock lace motif that adds visual interest and a delicate feminine quality to the piece. The mock lace technique creates an openwork effect without the complexity of traditional lace knitting, making it accessible for intermediate-level knitters.
