Product Description
Inspired by cricket sweaters of the 90s, Dingley Dell is worked seamlessly from the top down using the contiguous set-in sleeve method (developed by Susie Myers) to shape the shoulders and sleeve caps. Firstly increases are worked on both RS and WS rows to the final shoulder width, then the sleeve caps are worked simultaneously with the V-neck shaping to sleeve separation. The body is then worked top down, in rounds to the bottom ribbing. Short sleeves are also worked top down, in rounds. Neck finishing is worked last.

Dingley Dell by Isabell Kraemer
What is Being Made
Dingley Dell is a handknit top design created by independent designer Isabell Kraemer. This downloadable knitting pattern produces a finished garment available in multiple sizes, making it suitable for various body measurements and fit preferences.
Yarn and Materials
This pattern uses 4-ply weight yarn, specifically WalkCollection Merlino, which provides a lightweight construction ideal for a top garment. The yarn is offered in two colorway options: Marine (blue) and Hazelnut (brown). Total yardage requirements vary by size, ranging from 810 yards (740 meters) for the smallest size up to 1,528 yards (1,397 meters) for the largest size. The pattern provides specific yardage breakdowns for each individual size option, allowing knitters to purchase the exact amount needed.
Knitting Techniques and Stitches
Dingley Dell is classified as an intermediate-level knitting project, indicating it incorporates techniques beyond basic knit and purl stitches. The pattern employs several fundamental knitting abbreviations and methods:
- Knit stitch (k) – the basic foundation stitch
- Knit 2 together (k2tog) – a decrease technique that reduces stitch count and creates shaping
- Knit into front and back loop (kfb) – an increase method that adds stitches and creates texture or shaping
- Cast on (CO) – the foundation technique for beginning the garment
- Bind off (BO) – the finishing technique for securing stitches
- Increases and decreases (inc/dec) – shaping techniques used throughout the construction
The pattern is worked in the round, as indicated by references to beginning of the round (BOR), which is a common construction method for seamless top garments. This technique eliminates side seams and creates a smooth, continuous fabric.
