Bee Crochet Pattern by Kerri's Crochet

What Is Being Made

This downloadable PDF contains complete instructions for crocheting an amigurumi-style bee. The project creates a three-dimensional decorative bee figure suitable for display, gifting, or as part of a larger crochet collection. The finished piece features distinct body segments in contrasting colors and detailed facial features.

Craft and Technique Overview

This is a crochet project designed for crafters with intermediate skill level. The pattern uses fundamental crochet techniques combined with shaping methods to create a dimensional toy. The instructions include video tutorial support, making it accessible for those who benefit from visual guidance alongside written patterns. Assembly involves joining multiple crocheted sections and adding embroidered details for facial features and wing markings.

Stitches Used

The Bee pattern employs a variety of essential crochet stitches to build structure and texture:

  • Chain (ch) – Foundation stitch used to begin rows and create openings
  • Slip stitch (sl st) – Used to join rounds and connect sections seamlessly
  • Double crochet (dc) – Primary stitch for building dense fabric
  • Half treble crochet (htr) – Taller stitch for varied texture
  • Treble crochet (tr) – Used extensively throughout the head and body sections
  • Double treble crochet (dtr) – Tallest stitch used to create dimensional shaping, particularly in body segments

Materials and Yarn

This pattern is designed to work with 4-ply yarn weight, specifically crochet cotton or wool in small quantities. The color palette includes yellow, black, and white for the bee's body and markings. Beyond yarn, the project requires a crochet hook appropriately sized for 4-ply yarn, black sewing or embroidery cotton for detailed wing markings and facial features, a sewing needle for attaching embroidered elements, and a darning needle for weaving in yarn ends. Scissors complete the basic tool requirements.

Construction Method

The bee is constructed in distinct sections that are joined together. The head section begins with a magic loop technique, establishing a circular foundation with treble crochet stitches that are increased in the second row to create a rounded shape. The body section is then joined to the head using black thread, incorporating varied stitch heights including treble and double treble crochet stitches to form the bee's segmented abdomen. This modular approach allows crafters to work on manageable sections before assembly.

Pattern Format

This is a downloadable PDF format pattern from independent designer Kerri's Crochet. The instructions include standard crochet abbreviations for UK terminology and are accompanied by an optional video tutorial for additional support during construction.
