Ajna Yoga Socks by N.kaBia
What is Being Made
The Ajna Yoga socks are a knitted sock pattern designed for intermediate knitters. This downloadable PDF pattern provides instructions for creating a pair of socks in multiple sizes ranging from EU 36/37 up to EU 44/45. The design features two-color stranded knitting throughout the leg and foot, creating a visually dynamic pattern while maintaining the functionality of a comfortable everyday sock.
Techniques Used
This pattern employs several intermediate knitting techniques to create its finished design:
- Magic Loop or DPN (Double-Pointed Needle) knitting in the round – The socks are constructed using 4 double-pointed needles, a fundamental technique for creating seamless cylindrical garments like socks
- Two-color stranded knitting – Alternating between colour A and colour B throughout the rounds creates a patterned fabric while maintaining consistent tension and fabric integrity
- Cable knitting – A cable needle is required, indicating cable stitch elements are incorporated into the design
- Ribbed cuff construction – The cuff is worked in a knit 2, purl 2 ribbing pattern for 20 rounds, providing stretch and a finished edge
- Chart-based pattern reading – The leg features a 30-stitch repeat worked from a chart, requiring the knitter to follow a visual pattern guide
Stitches Used
The Ajna Yoga socks utilize fundamental and intermediate stitches:
- Knit stitch – The primary stitch used throughout the sock construction
- Purl stitch – Used in the ribbed cuff (knit 2, purl 2 pattern)
- Cable stitches – Incorporated into the leg design as indicated by the cable needle requirement
- Stranded knitting stitches – Standard knit stitches worked with two colors held simultaneously to create the patterned sections
Materials Required
Creating the Ajna Yoga socks requires the following materials and tools:
- Yarn: 2 x 50g balls of fingering weight sockyarn in 4-ply, totaling 100g with a yardage of 420 meters (459 yards). The pattern calls for two different solid colorways – referred to as colour A and colour B in the instructions
- Needles: 5 double-pointed needles (DPNs) in size 2.5mm (US 1.5) for working the sock in the round
- Notions: One cable needle for cable stitch work, 2 stitch markers (optional but helpful for tracking pattern repeats), and a darning needle for weaving in yarn ends
Size Options
The pattern provides instructions for multiple foot sizes to accommodate different wearers: EU 36/37, EU 38/39, EU 40/41, EU 42/43, and EU 44/45. Each size requires adjusting the cast-on stitch count accordingly, ranging from 60 stitches for the smallest size to 68 stitches for the largest.
Pattern Structure
The sock is constructed in distinct sections beginning with a cuff worked entirely in colour A using a knit 2, purl 2 ribbing pattern for 20 rounds. Following the cuff, the leg section transitions to two-color stranded knitting, alternating between colour A and colour B in every round while working a 30-stitch pattern repeat from a provided chart. This intermediate-level construction creates both visual interest and a sock that maintains its shape through everyday wear.
