Squares Jacket
I had a big project on at work during February and March, involving long hours and lots of patience, so this was just the thing to keep me sane, when I wasn’t too tired to do anything! Making squares is quick and easy, and satisfying. I modified the pattern quite a bit, making the jacket shorter (95 squares instead of 122), using only four colours in a pattern instead of lots of colours randomly and also used a different design for the square itself. I also used a different border and made other modifications to the sizing. It was fun to do and there was definitely a sense of achievement when I finished it! Oh and Rogan helped of course …

This is gorgeous Karen. The squares are so pretty and the black makes them stand out. I would love to make something similar but find working with black really difficult. And there’s a lot to do with all those squares!

Thank you Helen. Working with black can be challenging but I have good lighting which certainly helps! The colour changes in the squares look very effective but they create a lot of ends to sew in!

Well done you! I found the making up of this so tedious ( even though I stitched the ends in as I made each square) I called it the Never ever again jacket which is a shame as I was asked to make another by everyone who saw it! Like you crochet and knitting my de-stressor when I was working

Thank you Vix. I know what you mean about the ends - very bothersome! I decided to sew as I made - having working out the pattern of squares I was going to use I made each row of squares and then sewed them up. Didn’t start sewing in ends until I had finished the back though and the tedium of that meant I made sure I kept on top of it after that. It’s a striking design and people do seem to like it. They can make their own …
