Product Description

I always say that I love my newest projects, but I have to say it again. I'm in LOVE with this sweater dress :) It's more of a boat neck design with a loose fit, and it can easily be made as a sweater, full length dress or anything in between. It's an easy beginner/intermediate level project but it will look like an advanced one when you're done. This pattern includes an 11 page written pattern and photo tutorial as well as a link to the video tutorial to make it as smooth as possible.

This pattern includes us women’s sizes XS-XXL. Any questions you may come across in making this pattern will be answered inside, but if not feel free to message me.

Notes: This pattern made as us women's XS( S, M, L, XL, XXL ) This sweater is made in 4 separate pieces and sewn together ( The front and back panels are made the same ) This pattern is a 2 row repeat *row 2 and 3 This pattern is in multiples of 2 + 3 In this picture I have demonstrated with size small

Thanks for stopping by. Happy crocheting :)

Crochet Relaxed Fit Sweater/Dress Pattern by KnitcroAddict

What is Being Made

This is a crochet relaxed fit sweater/dress designed as a versatile garment that can be worn as either a pullover sweater or a dress depending on the wearer's preference. The pattern is available in six sizes ranging from women's extra small (XS) through double extra large (XXL), making it accessible for a wide range of body types. The garment features a comfortable, relaxed silhouette that prioritizes ease of wear and movement.

Construction Method

The sweater/dress is constructed using a four-piece assembly method. The front and back panels are made identically, and all pieces are subsequently sewn together to create the finished garment. This modular construction approach allows crafters to work on manageable sections before joining them, which can make the overall project feel less overwhelming and easier to track progress on.

Crochet Techniques and Stitches

This pattern uses fundamental crochet stitches and techniques suitable for beginner-level crocheters. The stitches employed include:

  • Chain stitch (ch) – the foundation stitch used to create the base of the work
  • Single crochet (sc) – a short, tight stitch that creates dense fabric
  • Double crochet (dc) – a taller stitch that works up more quickly and creates a more open fabric

The pattern features a 2-row repeat that alternates between rows 2 and 3, creating a consistent texture throughout the garment. The stitch pattern is worked in multiples of 2 plus 3, which determines the required chain count for starting each piece. The pattern also incorporates standard crochet abbreviations and techniques including working into the back loop (bl) only, skipping stitches (sk), and using stitch markers to track progress across right side (rs) and wrong side (ws) rows.

Materials and Gauge

The pattern calls for fingering weight yarn, which is a fine yarn weight that creates delicate, detailed fabric. The designer used Loops and Threads Woolike Simili-Laine in the color Golden Yellow (#14) for the pictured sample. Two crochet hook sizes are required: a 2.5 mm hook and a 4 mm hook, allowing for different tension options depending on desired fabric drape and stitch definition.

The blocked gauge for this pattern is 19 double crochet stitches by 10 rows equals 4 inches, which is essential information for achieving the correct finished measurements. Additional materials needed include scissors, a yarn needle for weaving in ends and seaming pieces together, and stitch markers for tracking pattern repeats and shaping.

Yardage Requirements by Size

The yarn requirements vary by size to accommodate different measurements:

  • XS – 18.31" width × 24.8" length, requiring 1,310 yards of yarn
  • S (Small) – 20" width × 24.8" length, requiring 1,350 yards of yarn
  • M (Medium) – 21.68" width × 24.8" length
  • L (Large) – larger measurements available
  • XL and XXL – extended sizes for additional fit options

All sizes share the same 24.8-inch length, with width increasing progressively through the size range. The yardage requirements increase with larger sizes to accommodate the additional width needed.

Pattern Format

This pattern is provided as a downloadable PDF format, making it convenient for digital access and printing. The pattern includes video tutorials divided into multiple parts (Part 1 and Part 2 referenced) to guide crafters through the construction process step-by-step, which is particularly helpful for visual learners and those new to garment construction.
