Roxie Plus Ladies Vest with 2 Neck Styles

What is Being Made

The Roxie Plus is a ladies' vest designed by Jennifer Lee, available in two distinct styles to suit different preferences. Style A features a deep, round neckline, while Style B offers a V-neck design with button closure. This pattern is specifically designed for plus-size figures, with sizing available in 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, and 5XL to accommodate bust measurements from 120cm to 150cm (47¼ to 59 inches). The finished garment measures between 130cm and 160cm (51¼ to 63 inches) across the bust, with lengths ranging from approximately 54cm to 57cm (21¼ to 22½ inches).

Knitting Techniques and Construction

This beginner-friendly knitting project uses fundamental techniques suitable for those new to garment construction. The vest is primarily constructed using stocking stitch, a classic knit fabric that creates a smooth, uniform appearance on the right side. The garment features 2x2 rib bands at key edges, which provide structure, elasticity, and a professional finish. Ribbing is a foundational technique where knit and purl stitches alternate in a regular pattern, creating vertical lines that help the fabric grip the body comfortably. The combination of stocking stitch body with ribbed edging is a traditional approach that ensures the vest maintains its shape while providing comfortable wear.

Stitches Used

The pattern employs essential knitting stitches appropriate for beginner crafters:

  • Knit (K) – the fundamental stitch that forms the basis of stocking stitch
  • Purl (P) – used in combination with knit stitches to create the 2x2 rib bands
  • Stocking stitch – created by alternating rows of knit and purl stitches, forming the main fabric body
  • 2x2 rib – a pattern combining two knit stitches and two purl stitches in sequence, worked on the necklines, armholes, and hem

Materials and Tools

The Roxie Plus pattern requires Lincraft Prism yarn in a chunky weight, with quantities varying by size: 11 balls for size 2XL, 12 balls for size 3XL, 13 balls for size 4XL, and 14 balls for size 5XL. Each ball weighs 50g and provides 65 meters of yardage. Knitters will need 6.00mm knitting needles (UK size 4, US size 10) to achieve the correct tension of 16 stitches and 20 rows over 10cm (4 inches) in stocking stitch. Additional supplies include a wool needle for sewing seams together. Style A requires 2 stitch holders to secure stitches during construction, while Style B requires 1 stitch holder and 3 buttons for the V-neck closure.

Pattern Difficulty and Suitability

Rated as Easy, this pattern is ideal for beginner knitters who have mastered basic stitches and are ready to tackle a complete garment project. The straightforward construction, reliance on fundamental techniques, and clear sizing options make it an accessible introduction to vest-making. The chunky yarn weight works up quickly, allowing crafters to see progress rapidly and complete the project in a reasonable timeframe.
