What Is Being Made

The Blissful project is a lap-sized or throw quilt measuring 45 inches wide by 63 inches long. The design relies on the classic visual impact of Half Square Triangles (HSTs) arranged in a repeating layout. When combined with the vibrant prints of the Splendor Collection by Riley Blake Designs set against a crisp snow white background, the result is a quilt with a lively, blissful aesthetic — hence the name. The diagonal lines created by the HST blocks give the finished quilt movement and energy, making it a striking addition to any home as a decorative throw or cozy blanket.

Techniques Used

• Half Square Triangle (HST) construction: The primary technique used throughout this pattern. HSTs are one of the most fundamental building blocks in quilting. Each HST is created by pairing two 10" squares — one snow white and one printed — drawing a diagonal line on the wrong side of the lighter square, sewing a ¼" seam on either side of the drawn line, and then cutting along the drawn line to yield two HST units from each pair of squares.
• Pressing and trimming: After cutting, each HST is pressed and then trimmed to 9½" square to ensure accuracy and consistency across all blocks before assembly.
• Row-by-row quilt assembly: Blocks are laid out and sewn together in 7 rows of 5 blocks, then rows are joined to complete the quilt center.
• Quilt finishing: The completed quilt top is layered with batting and backing fabric, then bound using a coordinating fabric from the Splendor Collection.

Stitches and Sewing Details

• ¼" seam allowance is used throughout the entire pattern — a standard quilting seam allowance that is already included in all measurements.
• All pieces are sewn with right sides together unless otherwise noted.
• The two seam lines sewn on either side of the diagonal drawn line — each at ¼" distance — are the key stitching steps that produce two HST units per fabric pair efficiently and accurately.

Materials and Fabric Requirements

This pattern is designed specifically around Riley Blake Designs fabrics from the Splendor Collection. The fabric requirements are as follows:

• 1 Splendor 10-inch Stacker (item number 10-3910-21): A pre-cut bundle of assorted 10" squares from the Splendor Collection. Note: the blue stripe and pink stripe 10" squares included in the Stacker are not used in this pattern.
• 1½ yards (1.4 m) of Snow White shade fabric (item number C200-03 Snow White): Used as the background fabric for all HST units. From this yardage, 5 strips measuring 10" x WOF (width of fabric) are cut, then sub-cut into 19 squares measuring 10" x 10". These pair with the Stacker prints to yield 38 HSTs, of which 35 are used and 3 are set aside.
• 5/8 yard (60 cm) of binding fabric from the Splendor Collection.
• 3 yards (2.75 m) of backing fabric.
• Batting of your choice, sized to accommodate the finished quilt
