Perfect Match Shawl has lace chart, bobbles, a central meander… and tassels !!! it also has tassels !!!

Start by knitting all peaks of one color + one peak of the other. After that, the party begins and you’ll work two colors with intarsia and by «stages». Add a peak on each side so that the shawl grows very quickly. As for the ending, do a little bit of YO, knits&purls and a surprise bind off.

Perfect Match Shawl by Sheep Days

Garment Overview

The Perfect Match Shawl is an advanced-level knitted shawl design created by designer Inés García of Sheep Days. This downloadable PDF pattern produces a finished shawl measuring 198 cm (78 inches) in width and 50 cm (20 inches) in height, not including tassels. The shawl is worked in a single size and features a sophisticated two-color construction that showcases color work techniques.

Knitting Techniques and Construction

This advanced knitting project employs several intermediate to advanced techniques that make it suitable for experienced knitters. The pattern utilizes color work with two coordinating yarn colors that are changed throughout the design. The shawl incorporates bobbles as a textural element, adding dimensional interest to the finished piece. The construction method involves crossing strands on the wrong side during color changes, a technique that ensures neat transitions between colors and maintains the integrity of the fabric structure.

Stitches and Stitch Techniques

The Perfect Match Shawl pattern utilizes fundamental knitting stitches combined with decorative techniques. Key stitches and techniques include:

  • Knit stitch (k) as the foundation stitch
  • Slip, slip, knit (ssk) for left-leaning decreases
  • Make one right (MR) increases for shaping
  • Make one left (ML) increases for directional shaping
  • Bobbles (Bob) for textural embellishment
  • Color changes worked with strand crossing on the wrong side

The pattern is worked from a detailed shawl chart that guides the placement of stitches and color changes throughout the project.

Materials Required

The Perfect Match Shawl is designed to be worked with 4-ply yarn weight, specifically the Soc una Troca brand in the Kitten line. This yarn is composed of 100% Merino Superwash, making it easy-care and suitable for frequent washing. The pattern calls for two coordinating colors:

  • Color A: Rose Leaves — less than 1 skein (80 grams)
  • Color B: Pink Rochefort — less than 1 skein (88 grams)

Each skein of Soc una Troca Kitten provides 100 grams and 400 meters (437 yards) of yarn. The total yardage required is well under two full skeins, making this an excellent project for using yarn from your stash or combining partial skeins.

Needles and Tools

Knitters will need US 6 (4 mm) circular needles measuring 47 inches (120 cm) in length, or the size required to obtain the correct gauge. Additional tools include stitch holders for managing stitches during construction and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends and securing tassels.

Gauge

The pattern specifies a gauge of 25 rows in the shawl chart over 15 x 8 cm (6 x 3 inches). While gauge is noted as not essential for shawl knitting, adjusting your gauge will affect the total yardage needed for the project. Knitters should swatch according to the chart pattern to ensure their finished shawl dimensions match the intended finished measurements.

Pattern Format and Accessibility

The Perfect Match Shawl is provided as a downloadable PDF pattern, allowing immediate access to the full instructions and charts. The pattern includes comprehensive abbreviations and references to detailed technique sections, supporting knitters in executing the more advanced elements of the design.
