Product Description
A traditional fisherman sweater with a feminine twist, lobster(woman) is restyled for the growing number of women involved in the trade. A scooped neck replaces the customary turtleneck, and the bodice is slightly fitted and elongated to show off a feminine silhouette. Lobster is worked in one piece from the bottom-up, with the body and sleeves knit separately and joined at the underarms. It is shown here in Swans Island Worsted,100% organic merino wool. It is amazingly soft, making the sweater wearable with nothing underneath.

Lobster Woman's Sweater by VERSACIKNITS
What is Being Made
The Lobster is a women's knitted sweater designed by VERSACIKNITS, available in six size ranges from XS-S through 5X-4X. This fitted pullover sweater features a comfortable, stretchy fabric construction with finished chest measurements ranging from 31¼ inches (79cm) for the smallest size to 62½ inches (159cm) for the largest size. The length varies from 26½ inches (67cm) to 29½ inches (75cm) depending on the size selected.
Knitting Techniques and Construction
The Lobster sweater is constructed using a bottom-up, in-the-round knitting method. The body and sleeves are worked circularly from the bottom upward and are joined together at the underarm. Following the body construction, the raglan yoke and collar are then worked to complete the sweater. This construction method creates seamless, continuous fabric and allows for easy customization of fit and length during the knitting process.
Stitches Used
This intermediate-level pattern incorporates two primary stitch patterns:
- Diamond Pattern: Worked at a gauge of 23 stitches and 32 rounds over 4 inches (10cm)
- Twin Rib: Worked at a gauge of 22 stitches and 32 rounds over 4 inches (10cm) when slightly stretched
The combination of these textured stitches creates visual interest and provides the fabric with its characteristic stretch and drape.
Materials and Tools
Yarn: The Lobster sweater is designed to be knitted with Swans Island Worsted Weight yarn, which is 100% organic merino wool. Each skein contains 250 yards and weighs 100 grams. The yardage requirements vary by size: XS-S requires approximately 1,400 yards (1,275 meters) across 6 skeins, while the largest size (5X) requires approximately 3,250 yards (2,975 meters) across 14 skeins. The pattern sample is shown in the Marine colorway.
Needles and Notions: Knitters will need U.S. Size 7 (4.5mm) needles in both double-pointed and circular styles, with circular needle lengths of 16 inches (40cm) and 32 inches (80cm), or preferred lengths. Additional notions include stitch markers, stitch holders, or waste yarn for managing stitches during construction.
Gauge and Fit
Achieving proper gauge is essential for this project. The pattern specifies different gauges for each stitch pattern used, and knitters are advised to take time to check gauge before beginning. The finished sweater is described as fitted with plenty of give in the fabric, making it comfortable for everyday wear while maintaining a flattering silhouette.
