Product Description
I wanted to create a nativity wreath that was simply shows the true meaning behind Christmas. For a couple of years I created the wreaths and sold them, and then I decided I'd love to share the pattern, so that more people can create this beautiful wreath themselves.
The nativity wreath uses just three stitches in total, so it is suitable for those fairly new to crochet, who have grasped the basic stitches. It's quick to make, and produces a decoration that'll last for years to come.
The download is for the UK terms version of the pattern, but I also have a US terms version, if required.
Crochet Nativity Wreath Pattern Overview
What Is Being Made
The Crochet Nativity Wreath is a festive decorative piece designed to celebrate the nativity scene during the holiday season. This crocheted wreath project combines traditional nativity elements with modern crochet techniques, creating a finished wreath measuring 25cm in diameter. The design is built upon a polystyrene flat-back wreath base, making it suitable for wall display or seasonal decoration.
Craft and Techniques
This project uses crochet as the primary construction method. The pattern employs fundamental crochet techniques appropriate for beginners, utilizing both 4mm/G and 3.5mm/E crochet hooks depending on the component being created. The wreath features crocheted elements that are assembled and attached to the polystyrene base using a sewing needle and glue, allowing crafters to build a dimensional, textured decoration from individual crocheted pieces.
Stitches Used
The pattern incorporates essential crochet stitches that form the foundation of beginner-level projects:
- Magic Circle (MC) – Used to create seamless circular foundations for individual components
- Single Crochet (SC) – The fundamental stitch providing structure and density to crocheted pieces
- Single Crochet Two Together (SC2Tog) – A decrease stitch used for shaping and reducing stitch counts
- Half Double Crochet (HDC) – A medium-height stitch adding texture and dimension
- Double Crochet (DC) – A taller stitch creating lighter, more open fabric sections
Materials and Yarn
The pattern offers two distinct colorway options—Rustic and Bright—each utilizing DK weight yarn for manageable, detailed work. The Rustic palette features Stylecraft Highland Heathers DK and Stylecraft Special DK yarns in earthy tones including Loch, Grist, Bracken, Brose, Shale, Cairn, Buttermilk, Copper, Walnut, and Sunshine. The Bright palette uses Stylecraft Special DK in Denim, Stone, Parchment, Mocha, Copper, Grape, Wisteria, White, Citron, and Buttermilk.
